Broomfield, CO location: Dark in color, light in body. Great dark roasted notes throughout. Some coffee and some bitter chocolate. Very clean and easy to drink with nice house yeast notes. LiebeBier (808) - Annapolis, Maryland, USA - DEC 18, 2004
Draft - This was my favorite of their beers. A nice malty flavor A sweet smooth taste. Wel made. murawski (160) - USA - AUG 5, 2005
On tap at Gordon Biersch in Washington, DC. Very nice dark brown ale (as long as you don’t expect a stout). Poured very dark with creamy head with a light aroma of coffee & chocolate. Flavor mimics aroma, but not heavy at all -- smooth palate. An excellent dark beer for the summer (although I prefer true stouts in the winter). Overall, above average. kramer (6682) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 19, 2006
On tap, DC location, 2006 RBSG pubcrawl. Pours a dark brown, similar to cola, under a small fizzy off-white head. Aroma is roasty with a little chocolate malt and light coffee. Flavor is nicely chocolaty and dry with a little coffee on the finish. Mouthfeel is fairly thin with a watery fizzy texture. A pretty good Schwarzbier, dry and crisp flavor and refreshingly light. A very good choice for a steaming hot summer day. mike mcneil (660) - St Augustine, Florida, USA - AUG 30, 2006
On tap at DC location. Color is a cola-like dark brown. Supports a thin off-white head with fairly good durability. No lacing. A restrained aroma of roasted malt, toffee and some chocolate. Mouthfeel was light and spritzy with a slightly watery texture in the finish. Clean, uncomplicated and mildly sweet flavors of dark roasted malt, burnt toast, chocolate, mocha and caramel. Shows a nice balance between the sweeter malts and more bitter, acidic roasted malt contributions. A simple and refreshing beer which is a nice rendidtion of the style.

Had on tap at the New Orleans location. Like its name states in German, it is a black beer. Pours dark with a nice head. My favorite of the beers at this brewpub. Immy (1955) - Virginia Beach, USA - NOV 27, 2006
On tap at the Virginia Beach location. Dark mahogany with a tan head. Sweet malt nose, a roasty, almost burnt quality, light chocolate and faint coffee. Slightly sweet flavor, roasty malt, a touch of charcoal, light coffee. Body on the light side of medium. Rather pleasant with my meal. jasonp (1581) - Ashburn, Virginia, USA - DEC 16, 2007
On tap at Tyson’s location. Pours an attractive cloudy, unfiltered dark brown with a creamy, dense off-white head. A slight tinge of roast with some herbal notes in the nose. Flavor has notes of bread/caramel/toffee with a pinch of roast and light chocolate. Ends with a pleasant grassy noble hop character. Very easy to drink. Medium to light bodied, but not watery with moderate to lively carbonation. Well-done. hellbilly (3249) - scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA - APR 7, 2008
new phx location. nearly black pour with brown at the edges. a fluffy off white head leaves literal spotty lacing. aromas of light lagering, near metallic maltiness, wood, some chocolate and coffee. the flavor’s the same... kinda plain. some roasty dryness and noble hop flavors stand out before the light bitter finish. medium to full bodied for the style and rather creamy. JoeMcPhee (9426) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 14, 2008
Tap at the DC location. Dark black beer, thick brown head. Aroma is quite nice and molasses-laden. Earthy herbal chocolate with a soft roasty toastiness. Herbal and a little bit toasty. Softly lagered malts and a nice roasty dryness. Pretty nice schwartz.
