2.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a mahogany/deep ruby with tiny off white head. Little in the way of aroma but you can tell it’s going to be sweet. Taste is sweet malt and some berry fruit, also get some sweet liquorice. Not offensive but not exciting.
A nice brown with big froyhy head fudgey rum and raisin with a sugar sweet finish medium bodied decent scotch ale but ive had better. nathanvc (502) - Brugge, BELGIUM - JUN 5, 2017
Bottle from Delhaize. Pours dark amber/brown with a minimal tan head. The aroma contains caramel, sugar, butterscotch, roasted malt and toffee. It tastes medium to heavy sweet and very light bitter, which counters a possible cloying. Soft fizzy carbonation, syrupy texture, medium body, slightly metallic finish. I might even have this again, but not too soon. DarkElf (3062) - La Jolla, California, USA - MAY 25, 2017

This cellared Scotch Ale pours a hazy, medium-brown body and half an inch of dark-tan head that leaves spotty lacing on the glass. The nose is super malty, caramely, earthy, soy saucy, and sweet. Deep caramel and molasses flavors dominate the palate. It’s sweet, but it’s a rich, malty sweetness, not a cheap sugariness. There’s earthiness here, but that rich malt character always remains on top, showing a very toasty, almost melanoidin accent and quite a nice bit of toffee as well. The beer is full bodied but it comes across as true weight, not sugary body, and it’s certainly not cloying on the palate. Carbonation is light-medium. Overall, this is a really great Scotch Ale. It’s rich and characterful, and it tastes like a Scotch Ale should: malty without being sugary (the problem with most domestic Scotch Ales on the market). And that it’s still a damn impressive beer after several years sitting in my cellar makes it all the more incredible. This is a highlight of the past few months. Hopefully the high quality is still something the current releases attain.
20170507 HOME; 33 cl bottle; BB 01/07/18. A good fine brown head on a clear beer with a brilliant amber colour. Aroma is light malty, even some roasted malt which give somewhat chocolate and caramel. For the rest some red fruit. Taste starts sweet with roasted malt, which give the beer a maltbitter and some chocolate. Light raisins and spicy from e.g. anise. A bitter in the aftertaste is coming above the taste. The bitter is from hops and malt. The body is medium-full and the beer is alcoholic. bartlebier (3982) - Belchium im Biersgau, GERMANY - MAR 31, 2017
33cl bb03/2018 (BLSampler 2017/4). - Less sweet and more watery than I remember this oldschool boozer from back home... Nice rubybrown pour with convincing beigish head. Diluted burnt caramel and tetrapacked cranberry juice in aroma; watercolour vinsanto and Kräuterbitter in taste. - Oddly inoffensive for the ill alcoholic reputation that precedes it. Ultimately drinks like the sugar-reprimed runnings a real Scottish ale, but decently paired&offset with groben Bratwürsten, gratin & fennel salad.

Barwa brunatna, piana gęsta i obfita. Aromat słodki co potwierdza się w smaku. Trochę owocowe, trochę karmelowe. Mimo wszystko jednak za słodkie. Alkohol dosyć dobrze ukryty. remALUS (360) - Kaunas, LITHUANIA - MAR 10, 2017

Bottle. Dark Brown / Ruby in colour. Sweet Malty (burnt sugar, caramel, toffee, roast malts). Fruity (dark fruits, raisins). Smooth & rich. Very sweet roast malty with bitter edge. Dry malty finish. Too sweet. Not for me. (2008)

Aroma: sugary hard biscuits (those ones grandmas always give you and you hate), molasses, herbs, berries (cherry), barrel wood, nose of molasses ; Appearance: Dark reddish brown, tan/white frothy foam ; Taste: medium to heavy sweetness, low bitterness ; Palate: medium body, sirupy feel, low carbonation, sweet finish. Overall: too sweet for my taste.
