Slightly sweet with a dark malt aroma. Dark amber with a brown off-white head. The taste is sweet with a bitter dark roast, approaching stout-flavor and an alcohol finish; a bit of raisin in there as well.

Bottle at home. Clear brown pour, creamy off-white head that leaves lacing. Aroma of spices, clove, dark malts, caramel and licorice. Flavor is sweet, spicy and alcoholic. Nice spicy bitter finish. Watery texture and medium carbonation.

DougShoemaker (3147) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 7, 2010
Aroma of demerara and fine malt, ruby, pours a small toffee head. Flavour has lots of roast malt, caramel and toffee. Medium bodied, very well balanced, sweet but enjoyable. Great!

Abio (1869) - BERMUDA - JUN 16, 2010
Pours out very dark red-brown, very dark brown in the glass. Nice, big, off-white head that holds good, and sticks nicely at the glass. Earthy sour-sweet fruits at the smell. A bit metallic. Pretty good fruity-sweet taste. Spices and something earthy inside. A bit to simple, alcohol comes up pretty hard. But not bad at all!

lagermonkey (725) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - JUN 4, 2010
Another bottle I brought back from my October trip to Belgium. It’s dark brown in the glass with auburn highlights and topped by a frothy tan head. A malty nose, sweet spices and a faint smokiness. Rich, raisiny fruitiness blended in with sweet spices, clove and cinnamon perhaps. More dark fruit lurking below and an understated earthy smokiness or toastiness in the body. There’s a faint metallic quality in the finish and the fruitiness leaves a stickiness in the mouth. The earthy roastiness lingers in the aftertaste. It’s 8.8% ABV but you’d never know it. Very smooth and complex at the same time. Nice ale.

33cl bottle. pours a dark ruby color with a medium off-white head. The foam is medium lasting and not very good lacing. Aroma is predominantly sweet: heavily malty with molasses and toasted sweetness. Vinous alcohol and fruits in my nose too. Flavor is strong and sufficiently complex: mostly sweet and alcoholic at the beginning turning to bitterness in the end. Medium bodied with lively carbonation. Overall, a gorgeous beer.

bhensonb (15236) - Woodland, California, USA - APR 17, 2010
Bottle from a small shop on the south side of the south plaza where the buses come and go in Bruges. West of the red monstrosity. Pours really dark brown/black with a very foamy/cllingy beige/tan head. Mildly xmas spice aromas. Full body. Lots of flavor. Dark roasted malt and mixed spice. Creates a strong herb/spice sensation in the mouth. It’s a heavy beer. Not a great beer, but a very sturdy and acceptable beer. Lots of caramel. Lots of flavor -repeated.

Zita (6324) - Assentoft, DENMARK - APR 2, 2010
bread, toast, roasty, dark amber, clear, white foam, medium sweetness, lightly bitter, medium body, creamy, soft carbonation, bitter, very ice beer.
