Best Xmas beer I have tasted - I like the fact it is less sweet than other Xmas beers. Spicey on the palate, and a good long botter finish.

UPDATED: DEC 6, 2005 Rerate, bottle stored for one year. Dark amber with a nice lasting offwhite head. Malty aroma, juniper berries, some fruit, x-mas spices, some toffee and figs. Flavor from figs, some pine, malty and with some alcohol, toffee and vanilla. Quite mild pleasant malty finish. (Old rating: 6/4/6/3/13)

bark (255) - Linköping, SWEDEN - DEC 7, 2004
Bottle. The colour is clear, dark wine red with a tint of brown. The large foam is light and beige.

The smell is dry and quite heavy. There are notes of aromatic hops, iodine, dried fruits and raisins, dark bread and brandy. In other words: Quite complex.

The carbonation is a bit sharp, but it weakens fast.

The taste is loaded with alcohol and a dry burned bitterness. I noticed flavours of some strong wine, some white bread, marzipan, and dried dates. The body passes surprisingly fast. The aftertaste is sourish with a potent bitterness and a light touch of matured cheese.

An good Christmas session ale, but there might be a little too much alcohol for my taste.

larsniclas (7108) - Billdal, SWEDEN - DEC 20, 2004
Draught at The Rover, Gotehburg, Sweden. Red ruby. Aroma from chocolate and some toffee. Warm and fullbodied. A lot of chocolate. Mmmmm.

MilkmanDan (1943) - Eagan, Minnesota, USA - FEB 19, 2005
Dark mahogany red. Nose rich and darkly sweet, bit peaty and maple syrup-esque, a bit like an oversweetened scotch ale. Nice flavor, rich and sweet, spiced toffee and butterscotch. Plummy sweet. Lots of caramel and chocolate. Rather good stuff.

1. Bottle at the Metropolitan Centre, Bury 24/11/2001 Mid brown coloured and strong in alcohol with a honey sweet flavour. Smooth on the palate. 2. On Tap at the Borough Arms, Crewe 17/04/2005 Mid brown coloured and strong in alcohol. Spicy and fruity cherry aromas. Warming slightly dry malt finish.

AceOfHearts (1374) - Mountain View, California, USA - DEC 10, 2006
Bottle. Nice dark amber and I must confess to being a bit swayed toward a 5 in appearance by the handsome glass it was served in. The aroma seems at 1st like it should be stronger but upon closer inspection it has some nice complexities along the lines of pine, maple, and brandy. Lightly spicy gingerbread flavor, pretty nice.

janubio (883) - SPAIN - MAR 9, 2007
UPDATED: MAR 13, 2007 75 cl. bottle. Pours a black reddish colour with a big creamy slightly brown head. Smell of cinnamon, some toasted notes, fruits and brandy and a bit of chocolate. Mouths is of liquor soaked cherries, cinnamon, caramel, liquorice with a touch of some hot spicy. Cake too. Thick mouthfeel, and, atfter all the sweetness, some warm bitter afterstate. A nice one, not the most complex.
