Deep red/brown with a fine baige head. Aroma of nuts, dust, brandy and alchohol. Flavor is extremly sweet, lots of sugar, brown sugar and a very warm alcohol finish. Looks and smells pretty good, but the flavor didnt appeal to me

UPDATED: MAR 13, 2007 75 cl. bottle. Pours a black reddish colour with a big creamy slightly brown head. Smell of cinnamon, some toasted notes, fruits and brandy and a bit of chocolate. Mouths is of liquor soaked cherries, cinnamon, caramel, liquorice with a touch of some hot spicy. Cake too. Thick mouthfeel, and, atfter all the sweetness, some warm bitter afterstate. A nice one, not the most complex.

larsga (7407) - Oslo, NORWAY - FEB 22, 2007
Medium light beige head; dark brown body with carbonation. Sweet aroma of licorice and burnt malts with sugary notes. Very harmonic. Fruity. Deep sweet harmonic taste of burnt licorice and syrup with light grain and fruit notes and a touch of spice. Light a light, sweet spicy stout. Slightly oily mouthfeel. Bitter spicy wood aftertaste. Some alcohol heat. Very nice, if not typically Belgian; more like a Belgian/Scottish mix. (0.33l bottle.)

UPDATED: APR 25, 2008 A two year old aged one on tap at Kulimantor in Sept. Big notes of toffee and malt, very enjoyable. Page 190 of Michael Jacksons only 381 out of his 500 Classic Brews to go.

Dark Brown with a chunky, lasting off-white head. Liquorice in the aroma, developing notes of sweet fruit and alcohol. Taste is rich and warming: plenty of alcohol, cognac, Christmas pudding, plums, muscatels, treacle toffee, candied orange peel, English custard, coffee, tiramisu, Seville orange bitterness. My Ratebeer #1000, and a very wonderful Christmas Ale worthy of a Dickens novel.

Mungo (2470) - Southampton, Hampshire, ENGLAND - DEC 22, 2006
Bottle (from Bitter Virtue)> There are some pleasant christmassy flavours here rich malts, toffee liquorice and a little spice with hints of roast. Unfortunately all of this is quite well hidden behind the sweetness and alcohol.
