The bottom fermented, dark Gösser Stiftsbräu is brewed according to old, inherited traditions. With a smoky, roasted nose and a thick and creamy taste on the palate, Stiftsbräu is a sophisticated delight for lovers of a slightly sweet, dark beer. The overall impression that Stiftsbräu creates is one of great harmony and well roundedness. 11.8°

Tried in Vienna, Austria (Christmas 2013). Tried at Gosser Bierklinik on draft. Pretty nice in the squat 0.5L dimpled mugs. Really liked this - hadn’t had a good dunkel in a while - like a great American stout but cleaner and easier to drink.

Clear red-brown colour, mid-sized head. Malty with hints of chocolate and raisins, slightly fruity. Some pleasant shy hoppy flavours hover in the background.

Kita (2299) - Koper, SLOVENIA - JUL 18, 2013
Bottled, 0.33l. Clear dark brown color with medium creamy tan head and average visible carbonation. Aroma of caramel, roasted malt, coffee and mild herbal hops. Taste starts with light sweet roasted malt, followed by coffee and caramel notes, while finished with moderate bitterness. Medium body, smooth texture and soft carbonation in palate. Pretty good dunkel...

Head: beige, big, froth, poor retention. Colour: dark red-brown, clear. Aroma: malt, toasted dark bread, tart, burnt sugar. Taste: toasty bitterness, kvas-like tartness, some sweetness too. The flavour is suspiciously intense for such a light beer. Feels a bit luscious and fake.

Quack-Duck (9540) - Down South, GERMANY - JUN 9, 2013
bottle from Meinl am Graben, Wien. Clear dark brown colour, off-white head. Sweet and malty, lots of caramel. Very close to a Bohemian dark lager, i.e. very nice indeed.

zvsn (2368) - ISRAEL - MAY 28, 2013
UPDATED: JUN 16, 2013 Bottle. Pours a ruby-brown color. Smell of toffee and roasted malts. Sweet, with caramel and toffee notes. Light-body, a bit watery. Good drinkability.
