With a smoky, roasted nose and a thick and creamy taste on the palate, Stiftsbräu is a sophisticated delight for lovers of a slightly sweet, dark beer. Draught at Gosser Bierklinik, Vienna, Austria. Poured a nearly opague black with a red tint. Had a two-finger light brown foamy head that retained well and laced OK. Low to no carbonation. Aroma dominated by roasted grain. Taste heavily of roasted grain with a slightly bitter after-taste. Light to medium body. Long roasted grain finish. Quite nice.

Bottle 0.5 L. Clear dark brown body, with an average, creamy, tan head mostly lasting with some lacing. Moderate malty aroma (caramel, dark bread, roasted) with light notes of dired fruits. Flavour is malty sweet but comes to a bitter long finsh. Light-to-medium body with an oily texture; soft carbonation; some light metallic feeling in the finish. Overall nice beer.

33cl bottle. Nice dark colour with a white head. Nice palate but there’s a herbal flavor in the aftertaste that I really didn’t like.

It does loook like Coca Cola. Dark, translucent cherry wood, with a fragile white head. Smells sweet, roasted malts...no: toasted malts. Sweet bakery smell of freshly-baked cross buns. The taste has that typical Dunkelness (not Darkness, neither Dunkelheit), with sweet malty flavours, biscuits, Lebkuchen, allspice with cinnamon, cloves and cardamon, all well-packed together and rounded to difuse the complexity. Palate is a bit ashy-chalky, sticking to the teeth. The finish is long and subtle, but when you turn around, your tongue is covered in this sticky tannin-type of film. Strange. Not a bad beer, but perhaps not something to get too excited about.

Aroma of toast and yeast. Pours thick off-white head.Colour is hazy dark brown, with an amber hue. Taste is thick and sweet with some toffee, plum and toffee apple. Watery. Light carbonation. Finish long and bitter. Decent ABV on this would make it a good choice for a session beer when looking for something a bit different.
