The bottom fermented, dark Gösser Stiftsbräu is brewed according to old, inherited traditions. With a smoky, roasted nose and a thick and creamy taste on the palate, Stiftsbräu is a sophisticated delight for lovers of a slightly sweet, dark beer. The overall impression that Stiftsbräu creates is one of great harmony and well roundedness. 11.8°

12 oz green bottle, the label is in the wrong place. It isn’t skunked luckily. It pours a deep dark brown with hues of red and a big foamy off-white head. As mentioned there is no skunk in the smell, it has a bit of astringent smell to it. It is malty, sugary, maybe some brown sugar, smelling. It has a nice thick mouthfeel but as far as Munich dunkels go this one is weak in flavor. Slightly metallic, sugary dark malts, hint of roastiness, with not much hops. It is too watery flavored. Overall it is a fail for the style in the taste department. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 03-14-2010 21:33:01

Bottle @ Hotel Stefanie Hippach, one month past best before date. Malty aroma with milk chocolate. Malty sweetish flavor with caramel, nutmeg, cinnamon. Some nutty caramelly bitterness in the aftertaste. Not unpleasant.

Very nice appearance with a deep, dark brown colour topped with a beige, lasting head. Sweet aroma. Taste of sweet roasted malt and dark chocolate. Vague bitter finish. A tasty beer, but perhaps a litte too sweet.
