Brown, low tan head. Aroma nuts, roasty notes, cereal. Palate medium, low carbonation. Taste light roastiness, wood, grassy tones. Balanced. NicerInPerson (337) - North of Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - JAN 12, 2008
The aroma was WOW, malty and chocolately with a strong depth of character and a nutty and toasty Munich malt presence. The aroma had a light bit of spicy hop nature and even a light smoky phenolic. Complex and interesting! The beer poured into the glass crystal clear amber brown with a beige/tan well lasting head which rose tall and fell very slowly to lace the glass. The flavor was nicely malty with more toasty and nutty Munich malt characteristics and a lightly spicy hop character with decent bittering which kept the caramel of the malt in check. The flavor contained a light bit of that same smoky phenolic which added depth to the beer. The finish was dry with lasting flavors lingering into the aftertaste. The body was medium with a moderate level of carbonation and an almost creamy nature on the palate. This one is a winner folks, getcha some! 12 ounce green bottle. MrGGen (334) - ITALY - APR 15, 2009
330 ml bottle. Skunky aroma. Dark beer. Clear brown color. No foam and low carbonation. This is a very different mixture than what I’m used to. Skunky taste/dark beer. I thought it was interesting but not really for me. RomanW70 (296) - Providence, Rhode Island, USA - JUL 17, 2008
Had at Gurtel Brau in vienna on 7/1. Pours dark aramel colore with a smallish white head. Aroma of dark fruits, caramel, and cocoa. Flavor is sweet, but not sickly sweet. Very drinkable, if unexciting, beer.

Nothing but a slightly malty German dark beer. Refreshing, medium bodied with a watery finish. Argonian (280) - Athens, GREECE - JAN 30, 2014
Bottle. Pours a dark body, with a light brown head that diminishes quickly, leaving a fair lace. Aroma of roasted malts and caramel. Medium sweet taste, notes of caramel. Pretty thin, average carbonation, watery texture. Pretty nice. spporras (259) - FINLAND - FEB 1, 2007
(Bottle BBE 05/2007; Thanks Jay!) Malty and slightly chocolate aroma with a hint of caramel. Dark red brown colour and average size, light brown, more or less fully diminishing head with a hint of lacing. Sweet, malty, slightly roasted, slightly caramel and slightly chocolate flavour. Softly carbonated, medium bodied and dry palate. Gösser Stiftsbräu is a good dunkel! 28/01/07 blinesam (235) - USA - MAY 22, 2007
bottle, poured into glass. Very dark, tastes rather light compared wit color. Probably one of the better austrian beers. Scubaguy (230) - Alberta, CANADA - FEB 5, 2011
It pours a dark brown color with a lingering 1 finger off white head. It has some lacing and a large amount of carb present.
On the nose I am getting some sweet malt and a little grassy notes.
It has a creamy mouthful and on the flavor side of things I get some sweet malt, carmel, toasted bread, grains. The sweetness up front seems to balance out with grassy hops.
It finishes with a slight bitterness. It is similar to a pale euro pale lager but without the skunk and not something you have to force down. I have to say this is something I could reach for again.
