Funny, the bottle said "Best before end: October, 2001". This low ABV brew must get better with age then because It was fine and very tasty. It poured a medium sized head offine to medium sized mostly lasting bubles that left behind a semi transparent dark brown colored carbonated body. It had a strong caramel mollasses malt aroma and a lightly bubbly mouthfeel that was smooth throughout except after it warmed a bit when a slight acidic note was added. I added this after after reading the other comments, it must loose some of the carbonation with time as noted in the other reviews. I wonder what this brew tastes like when it is fresher? It is very good as it is. hotstuff (5177) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - SEP 29, 2003
A very drinkable and enjoyable beer to drink and rate as it was easy on the palate and it was not bitter tasting. It poured a small sized tan head with fine-medium sized bubbles that mostly dissipated. The body was opaque and uncarbonated with a brown hue.The nose was lightly malty and caramel. The flavor was sweet and had a caramel flavor as well. The mouthfeel was smooth and light bodied. This beer left a fair amount of lacing on the sides of my glass.A pretty good beer!

(draught at the Yard House in San Diego) deep, deep brown with small tan head. Rich malt aroma. Smooth, sweet malt flavor. I first had this over 20 years ago in Austria--it's as good as I remember it being. detroiter (958) - Euphoria, Minnesota, USA - JAN 13, 2007
Poured into the tall cylindrical thick-walled heavy Gosser glass, it was a very clear brown with a good 1.5" head that stuck around. Smelled pretty good, somewhat chocolatey.
Nice smooth mellow sweet malt, with chocolate and toffee and some roasted grains. Hops were noticeable and nicely balanced the sweetness. Lots of body, expecting much less I was pleasantly surprised. dreamloomer (66) - Warsaw, POLAND - AUG 7, 2010
Drank as Gösser Dark.
Strong aroma, with fresh hops and a bit of roasty and caramel notes.
Very full taste. The first impression is caramelly dryness, then hoppiness with a bit of malt and finally the roasty bitterness in the aftertaste.

Draft in Salzburg, Austria. As ’Gosser Schwarzbier’. Very dark beer with a frothy head. Smooth and light - not at all bitter. Very gentle coffee malt notes and distinct walnuts. Smooth dry finish. Lovely fresh tasty beer.
nearly opaque mahogany with a few bubbles on top; Medium body with medium-high carbonation.flying_pig (1582) - SCOTLAND - JUL 20, 2012
Aroma: sweet bready dark malt, woody tobacco hops, mild alcohol, and hints of dark fruit.
Taste: very mild, some dark-roasted grainy malt, mineral water, hints of cola and sweet coffee,, and just enough hop bitterness to balance.

Dark, quite rich aroma from this one with some roasted malts and a nutty smell too. There is some caramel and light toffee notes along with some burnt sugar, touches of chocolate and darker fruits too.
Black with a tiny, mainly bubbly off-white coloured head that is short lived and as such a bit disappointing.
Sweet to begin with along with lots of sugar and a touch of lighter coffee. I could detect some caramel, toffee and dark fruits such a figs and raisins.
Smooth with a good amount of carbonation, a medium body and plenty of sweetness. It goes down well, with a dry but not overly dry finish.
Very nice to drink and somewhat surprising considering I found this one in a Croatian supermarket in the height of summer. Even in almost 40 degree heat this one went down well with a solid flavour and great taste.
Dark brown color, big beige head. Caramel aroma with notes of honey. Creamy palate with medium body, no carbonation to mention. Strong chocolate flavor is cut nicely by biting hops. Nice lace in glass, chocolate taste lasts long. Dimensional world class dunkel for my taste! dopplerted (11) - Rochester, Minnesota, USA - NOV 28, 2005
I had this on tap at a German beerhall style restaurant. A very good dark beer with a nearly black color and a slight aroma of dark chocolate. An enjoyable almost sweet taste of dark roasted chocolate and caramel but a mildly bitter aftertaste. And like I said, this goes great with spatzle and wiener schnitzel.
