Hoponmate (309) - NEW ZEALAND - JAN 20, 2017
330 ml bottle bought at Natually Good’s booth during HKTDC Food Expo 2017 at HKCEC, Wanchai.
Looks: One quarter finger head with residual soapy white foam which fades in 20 seconds; Good sticky lacing with active slight carbonation.
Aroma: Fragrant Pils malt, with strong gooseberry, melon, white grapes, passion fruits, candied fruits, floral, fructose, spices, bread, lemon peels and grass.
Taste: Close to light sweet Pils malt, with strong tartness, strong citrus, grapefruits, floral, sugar notes, spices, biscuits, strong lemon, medium bitter hops and grass.
Body: Mid to light body. Quite slick palate.
Mouth Feel: Fairly solid Pils maltyness in a slightly slick background. Lots of tartness - wheaty as well as fruity - in the mix. very citrusy hops with grapefruit and peels, flowery with fairly light sweetness. Spicy biscuity with strong lemon to round. Solid!
Hoppiness: Gooseberry, melon, white grapes, passion fruits, candied fruits, floral, spices, lemon peels and grass in nose. Strong citrus, grapefruits, floral, spices, strong lemon and grass in taste; Bitterness is strong for an a lasting, close to high-astringent bitter sweet tart malty finish.
After Taste: Quite Dry. Citrusy and strong bitter to mouth.
Coments: This one has really good Nelson Sauvin aroma with all that berries and melon to impress, yet taste-wise it seems to suffer somewhat the strong tartness which is the trademark of most Mata’s beers, and the citrusy hops are strong but lack dimension. Drinkable but there can be more to light up the taste buds. Worth a try.
Refreshing clear citrus pilsner. Crisp delicious finish. A little bit tart with hints of gooseberries but ultimately just a pilsner. Skarecrow (1052) - North Shore, Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - NOV 6, 2016

fine pilsner full of bitter hoppy flavours, crisp dry luvly mix wish I had another 3fourths (9367) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - DEC 28, 2013
A bright, snappy hoppy Pilsner that shows Kiwi hops well. Burnt pineapple, green onion, bubble gum and papaya hop aroma. Medium body, bright hop acids, smacking crispness, lots of green tropical fruit flavors, rind and skin-like, a lighter touch of green onion. Lean, lightly sweet, a bit oily in the finish. Quenching hop acids. Clear gold a short film of a head. From Bottle.

I’m assuming this is the Mata Hip Hop that is labelled "Pilsener" on the bottle. Yes there are some pils aromas and flavours in there, but the heavy sauvin dominated hoppiness makes the above description ’APA’ more accurate. A very good showcase for the sauvin hop, this beer is full of funky, fruity, juicy, grapey goodness, a lot of flavour for a mere 5% beer. @ Brew, Rotorua. Golden colour. Aroma is full of kiwi hop (lychee, kiwi, mint). Nice dry character, w very little malt. Good balance, clean and refreshing. Nice APA.
