COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Het Anker Brewery still brews "The Emperor’s Beer" which is top-fermented and bottle conditioned following traditional methods. Its high gravity (O.G. 1080-85) combines the warmth of wine and the freshness of beer. Gouden Carolus is one of the strongest and most exciting beers in the world. After lengthy maturing and conditioning, it is bottled unfiltered, giving a beer which is rich in vitamins and 100% natural. Gouden Carolus has unlimited storage (it even improves with age) and will charm you with its warm coppery colour and rich bouquet.

From the 1st sip I fell in love with this beer, the aroma reminded me of banana’s as well as the flavor, very aromatic and nice bubbles, though some might not like this, I found it to be pleasant and relaxing.

This has a very rich flavor and aroma, I don’t know much about belgium beers or beers in general but this is one of the best beers I have ever tasted

Pours a dark purplish brown with a foamy beige head. Wonderful aroma of chocolate, raisin, plum, grape, toffee, fig, and spice. Extremely smooth drinking because of the excellent balance of sweetness, spice and chocolate maltiness. One of my favorite beers.

Fles. Topbier. Mooi schuim, mooie kleur.

Bouteille 33cl, V&B Grenoble.

Pours with a large and fluffy light brown head. Color is clear dark amber. Fruity and filling aroma has coffee and cappucino, roasted nuts, salty malt, light salty fish note, faint licorice aroma and a plethora of other faint aromas. The aroma is rather complex. Palate is very nice, carbonation is a bit weak, but suitable for the style. Quite rich taste is like a "watered down" stout. There’s a pronounced raisin note. Warming alcohol feels in the throat. Malty sweetness spreads to the mouth. The taste is tasty, but less complex than the aroma. Very filling and satisfying beer though and therefore very good value.

#420... My new favorite beer, ordered on the spur of the moment after the waitress told me they were out of Nocturnum. On tap, deep brownish with a grape colored hue. Light head with lacing. Most amazing flavors i have had in a Belgian, with perfectly sweet grapes, plums, and banana at first, changing abruptly to tones of chocolate and cherry before ending in a sweet , yet lightly drying finish. The taste lingered long after i took a sip. As of now this stands as my new #1 until I can get my hands on my old favorite World Wide stout.
