COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Every year on the 24th of February, the birthday of "Charles the fifth", the Brewery brews the Gouden Carolus "Cuvee of the Emperor" in a limited quantity and with an eye on the highest quality and tradition.

This unique brewing, with only extra fine Belgian hops and with a higher alcohol level, guarantees a better evolution in the time, than the already known Gouden Carolus Classic.

The 75cl bottles are closed with a quality cork. Excellent to store several years. This exceptional ale ages well, developing a refined complexity and intense aromas. With powerful notes of roasted malts, caramel and plums, its surprisingly soft and fruity aroma combines a warm roundness with a refreshing taste. An imperial brew to cherish and enjoy in moderation.

Was 8% abv in 2000-2002, 10% in 2003 and 11% in 2004.

Reviewed 12/25/2012. 11.2 oz bottle (2011 vintage) into a Duvel tulip. A: Pours a hazy dark brown color. The head is a one finger light cream color with nice texturing around the edge of the glass. Retention isn’t that good, unfortunately, but lacing is attractive but sparse. S: There’s a strong aromatic bouquet of raspberries and chocolate, with underlying notes of cream, crisp pears, toffee, brown sugar, honey, and lavender. I really love inhaling this beer, there’s so much here to take in and enjoy. T: Sweetness explodes on the tongue right from the get go - chocolate and malted milk balls dominate the palate initially. It sounds like this will be hella sweet. Luckily, this features the hallmark of most great BSDAs, that being impressive balance to help tie together the great flavors. Some earthy, flowery hops will try to nudge into the flavor profile midway through, while the finish is (balanced) alcohol, honey and tart dark fruits. The complexity is something you can really chew through and analyze while remaining a delicate, subtle suggestion. M: As a nitpick, this beer sits a bit too heavily on the palate. Otherwise, it’s a silky smooth beer that’s clean as a sheet, but with a great residual aftertaste. A little boozy, but nowhere near harsh on the palate. Not quite as carbonated as it seems initially - but maybe that’s because I let it rest for about 15 minutes. O: Wonderfully crafted yet immensely enjoyable. Right up there in the same conversation as Rochefort 10 and St. Bernardus 12 in my mind.

The champagne of beers!!! I just can’t get enough:-). Caramel, citrus, spruce, dough, butterscotch, amber, cloudy, frothy, heavy cloying sweetness, lightly bitter, medium sourness, umami, full body, thick feel, lively, long finish,

I have always appreciated really good Belgian beers, but this one takes the cake! The carmel finish and incredible balance make this one of the best beers I have ever tasted. If you love Belgian strong ale, then this is a MUST! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Vintage 2001 Cuvee keiser blue at Delirium. Black with a chocolate brown head. Aroma of dusty chocolate malt, slight vinegar. Very mellow taste with flavour of dusty malt, slight sweet chocolate, alcohol coming out of the throat rather than coming in. Oak, dry red wine tones, Ends with slight coffee bean bitterness and a mellowed alcohol taste along with some peachy undertones. 3,6/5 Bottle Vintage 2013 4,5/5

W aromacie figi, rodzynki, kandyzowane owoce, trochę estrów, przyjemnie i intensywnie. W wyglądzie czarne z ładną białą pianą. W smaku znów rodzynki, figi, melasa, bardzo słodkie. Ciało dość ciężkie, degustacyjne. Ogólnie przyjemny quadrupel, choć zdecydowanie idący w stronę słodyczy.

UPDATED: MAY 20, 2017 consumed a while ago - notes from phone: surprised at the hype of this ale, given its taste was redolent of standard (albeit high quality!) brune fare - figs, hella yeasts etc. Potentially aging unlocks hidden potential.

Dark brown with small tan head. Aroma brown sugar/caramel, some toasty malt, some dark fruits. Full body. Not really a ton of alcohol but a warming presence. Flavor is sweet and sticky up front, toffee, dates, remains drinkable though. Good complexity, excellent.

Pours a hazy ruby brown with a foamy off white head. Aroma of stone fruit, grapes and candy. Taste is very sweet up front, but not cloying. Notes of candy and fruit with a dark cherry note that finishes off the taste with a slightly bitter offset.

Sin duda la mejor de carolus, aroma de caramelo, muy sutil en el sabor, dejando gusto a frutas con un ligero toque picante, sin ser empalagosa,y dejando un agradable regusto muy bien equilibrado.
