Deep ruby, beige head. Fruity bubblegum aroma. Richly malty with dense soft mouthfeel. Relatively dry. Complex and very flavourful, notes of caramel and disturbing green apples. A balanced Belgian beer, playing in the super premium league.
(Bottle 75 cl) Vintage 1999 at 8,5% ABV. I bought this at the brewery at the day of it’s release. Great show with some sort of reenactment of the arrival of Keizer Karel in Mechelen. Wonder if that happens every year at this beers release or if was a one off? Anyways, this is an excellent brew. Dark brown with a huge, frothy, light-brown head. Extremely full-bodied, full of good ingredients. Loads of roasted malt with notes of syrup and dried fruits - dates in particular. Sweetness indeed, but more fruity and fresh - which is unusual for it’s kind. a great beer indeed. 070500 Travlr (24826) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - NOV 30, 2008
750 ml, 2001 bottle tasted in September 2008. Muddy brown color with scant white head. Aroma of malt and figs. Flavor of port, figs, cherries and nutmeg. Warm alcohol mist wafts over you towards the finish. madmitch76 (24807) - , Essex, ENGLAND - JUN 5, 2012

2006 Bottle. Hazy dark brown beer. Unsweet chocolate nose, bubblegum too. Also something rather unpleasant, like rotting wood. Semi dry palate. Cocoa powder like chocolate, something unpleasantly sour. Plummy fruit, artificial chocolate powder, sherry. Warming boozy finish despite the 4 year age. All over the place - a real mess. Weighted Average of 4? You are all mad!
