COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Every year on the 24th of February, the birthday of "Charles the fifth", the Brewery brews the Gouden Carolus "Cuvee of the Emperor" in a limited quantity and with an eye on the highest quality and tradition.

This unique brewing, with only extra fine Belgian hops and with a higher alcohol level, guarantees a better evolution in the time, than the already known Gouden Carolus Classic.

The 75cl bottles are closed with a quality cork. Excellent to store several years. This exceptional ale ages well, developing a refined complexity and intense aromas. With powerful notes of roasted malts, caramel and plums, its surprisingly soft and fruity aroma combines a warm roundness with a refreshing taste. An imperial brew to cherish and enjoy in moderation.

Was 8% abv in 2000-2002, 10% in 2003 and 11% in 2004.

DISCLAIMER: This is a dark beer and the label has a blue diagonal line.

Appearance: very dark brown, very thick tan colored head, laces nicely, head so thick you can walk on it Aroma: very fruity, orange, chocolate, caramel, very aromatic Taste: very rich, malty, roasted flavor, sweet, plum Palate: leaves a lingering malty aftertaste, thick on the tongue Overall: this is an intensely flavorful beer, not a session beer, hides the alcohol well, 2012 vintage ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Donker amber/donkerbruin, beige schuimkraag, wazig, redelijk koolzuur. Aroma: Zoetig, donker fruit, pruim, rozijn, Karamel, toffee, licht zuurtje, geroosterde mout. Volle body, voldoende koolzuur, redelijk zacht mondgevoel.  Afdronk is kruidig, zoet, licht bitter en warm.

Draft at Rogue SE PDX. Ruddy brown with tight ecru foam. Date and mellow cookie spices. Broad, sweet, fruity root beer and spiced cider flavor. Alcohol is extremely well hidden in the palate that feels more like a mere soda pop. Comparisons are going to be drawn against Bernardus. Abt 12 wins in every category, I'm afraid. It's a great beer, but not in the running for the greatest beer.

2003 bottle from my basement: This one pours a clear dark ruby tinged brown color. It opened with quite a pop, but there was no real head on it. A wonderful nose. Some sweetness, yeasty and bready, and with plums, raisins and other dark fruits. The taste is excellent. A subtlety mix of dark plum, caramel, bread, raisins and quite a few other fruits. This was superb.

backlog, Bardzo fajny aromat ciemnych, suszonych owoców, lekko syropowy. W smaku dość słodki, aczkolwiek bardzo przyjemny. Finisz bogaty, bardzo fajny.

2011er bottle from my cellar. The beer starts intense and extreme deep. Sweetish but not too sweet, lots of dried fruits - cherries, plums, raisins. Lots of malty caramel, smooth and mild. Great depth with not too much bitterness, very nice balanced.

On tap at Pizzeria Uno in Hamilton, NJ. Mahogany red color topped by a small creamy beige head. Dark fruit malty aroma hints at brandy and currants. Big malt flavor upfront. Notes of burnt caramel, dark dried fruits, plums and apple brandy. Smooth mouth feel for such an intense brew. Big boozy notes as well. Quite an amazing ale!

Bottle, Bier Tempel in Brussels. Deep reddish brown colour, white foam. Quite high carbonation still, despite being a couple of years old. Heavier than say Westie 12, syrupy fruit flavours, but still a nice a slightly drying finish. Touch of spice. Seriously nice beer.
