Gouden Carolus Cuvée van de Keizer Rood is a strong blond beer that was launched in 2008 on the occasion of "10 years Gouden Carolus Cuvée van de Keizer Blauw". However, it contains more types of malt and 3 different kinds of herbs are added during the brewing process. Its bright golden color, high alcohol percentage and full and well-balanced taste make this ale a genuine source of vitality and power which will please even the most critical connoisseur. For ideal savoring, gently pour out in one fluent movement, at a temperature of 7-8° C (45-46°F). Proudly poured it is savored with respect. Those who like a refreshing, heavy and somewhat spicy beer, choose this blonde ale.

Corked and caged 750mL bottle, jaargang 2016. Beautiful dusty, lightly (black) peppery nose, touch lemon, touch grainy malt, touch vanilla, touch herbal, sweeter fruity overtones. Pour is clear and lustrous golden with a large foamy white head. Taste very spicy (black pepper and medium herbal/medicinal), low bitterness that accumulates to medium, somewhat dry despite the intense fruity esters up top, stiff warming alcohol that otherwise comes off relatively smoothly, beautiful PIlsy/grainy malt with a bit of wheat, orange marmalade and peel, clove, subtler vanilla, light oak. The fruit is almost candy-like, but the overall effect isn’t all that sweet, certainly much drier and (at least semi-) digestible by attenuation. Alcohol dominates an otherwise light-medium mouthfeel, gives a bit of a spirity feel, but not too sharp, just a little bit of sickness in the finish and aftertaste. This would benefit from a creamier feel pulling it closer to a big Hefeweizen than where it is now, an equally-sloppy Piraat. Still a fun one! [2017.02.13: 3.2]

Bue 3 ans après le millessime. Belle robe dorée cuivrée limpide, mousse blanche retombant lentement. Nez levure, pain, abricot. Bouche levure, banane, baneton. Effervescence disparue, texture crémeuse, alcool bien caché, longueur décevante. Interessant mais probablement bue trop tard, pas vraiment convaincu... Dans mes souvenirs, meilleure bue plus jeune !

Big bottle from elevated with commonmac. Nice hazy light orange color with white head. Heavy alcohol nose with yeast . Taste is slightly sweet, fuzzy yeast, sharp alcohol. Spicy. Warming. Full body. Nice balance. Subtle fruitiness. Apple or pear maybe. Delicious. Long live the Crimson king.

Large bottle picked up at Elevated. 2013 variety. Consumed with commonshawn during Belgium/Germany trip planning. Beautiful golden orange color with a half finger eggshell white head. Nice haze. Aroma is boozy, slightly spicy, and a darker fruit quality. Taste has sweet malty notes, mild orange characteristics, a pleasant spiciness/sharpness reminiscent of a tripel but with a much bigger alcohol punch. Elements of a tart, overly ripe apple or pear present. Very impressed by this one. Blauw still tops Rood but it’s closer than you might think. Highly recommend purchasing a bottle as soon as you can.
