Bottle from Merchants. Bottle shared with Frank. Aroma is raisin, dark fruit, bread, robust, fruity, pudding, good. Appearance is brown, light light tan head, hazy. Taste is raisins, bread, pudding, woody, fruity, a little old but still good. Mouthfeel is light body, light to almost flat carbonation, dark fruit and slight booze aftertaste. Overall, it’s a little past it’s prime but still tastes pretty damn good.

750 ml corked and crowned bottle. Mahogany brown pour has a small creamy beige head that disappates quickly. Toasted malt nose is redolent of dark dried fruits and licorice. Flavor is soft and spicy, with more dried fruit and anise. Very little carbonation. High alcohol is only noticeable in finish, but is subtle and warming. Herbal hops in finish as well.

Pours clear copper with an off white head. Plenty of star anise and candy on the nose with a little booze and bread. The sweetness and spice temper a little in the mouthful but are still strong. Finish is a bit dryer and smoothes out like a tripel. Weird but enjoyable.

benpickens (544) - Camarillo, California, USA - MAR 28, 2016
Pours cloudy reddish brown with no head only soapy bubbles; aromas of port. sherry, plums, and fruitcake; carbonated palate with off-dry finish. Reminds me of Kasteel Donker beer

paulvanpelt (678) - Reusel, NETHERLANDS - MAR 27, 2016
UPDATED: APR 5, 2016 Donker hazelnootbruin bier. Troebel, kleine lichtbeige kraag. Aroma van laurierdrop, anijs, mout, abrikoos. Smaak is zoet met een licht bittertje. Beetje droog. Vol, complex.

Aroma: Smelling of bread, orange, anis and yeast.
Appearance: A dark brown colored beer. A off-white head with good lacing and good curtains.
Taste: Tasting sweet burnt sugar, bread, raisins and licorice.
Palate: Medium carbonation, a soft and oily texture. A big body.
Overall: Very stylish. Could probably have been aged a few years more.
