Alengrin (5369) - BELGIUM - AUG 19, 2014
The original, dark version of this beer, with yellowish, moussy foam leaving pretty lacing on the edge of the glass and dark ruby red colour, clear. Powerful, typical Gouden Carolus aroma with lots of spices, impressions of star aniseed, mint, cherry liqueur, sherry, coughing candy, cloves and chocolate. Sweetish taste, resinous, bitterish spices, very light sourish touch, even a bit of salty ’drop’, light roasted bitterness in the end, bit astringent alcohol. Interesting, rich ale of the Scotch type, meanwhile revised to a blonde one. Bryanvdv (524) - - MAY 3, 2014
Robijn rood donker bruin bier, helder met weinig schuim. Aroma is zoet zuur, caramel. Smaak is kruidig, vol zoet. Mooi bier.

Pours a dark brown body with a thin head. A nice aroma with tones of candy. Rich taste with lots of flavours.

2005 bottle at Kulminator. Shared with 77ships. Pretty orange-amber color with a low head. Lots of raisin, caramel, and something like smoked cheese in the nose. Lightly oxidated. Tangy orange flavor, prune, raisin, treacle, again something like smoke cheese or even sausage., root beer. Oxidized but still in pretty nice shape.

2005 Vintage 75 cl. bottle @ Kulminator shared with KyotoLefty. Pours a dark wood brown, almost mahogany with a surprisingly solid tanned head. Nose is sweet prunes, dark brown sugar, oxidation in good sherry quality. Taste is sweet prunes, jam, dark fruits jam, raisin, dark honey & overripe banana, spices, sweet herbs, good oxidation. Body is a bit thinned out but still holding up. Has aged very nicely as Gouden Carolus beers tend to unlike most beers despite what some might claim. A very nice brew, thx! for the introduction & split. patxa (207) - MEXICO - AUG 2, 2013
Great smoked herbs aroma, with tan head and medium body. Not the best consistency. However, this beer has an outstanding dates, licorice and anise mix of flavors and a superb complex palate. No alcohol kick. Great belgian season ale. GothGargoyle (2587) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 8, 2012
Shared a bottle of the 2005 with friends at Kulminator. Appearance is dark brown with a small pale head that leaves behind some nice lacing. Aroma is raisins, brown sugar, plums, touch of liquorice. Sweet and sticky on the palate, low on the carbonation. Taste is raisins, candi sugar, caramel, dates, hint of licorice in the aftertaste. Another excellent bier in the Gouden Carolus selection.
