Origin: Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor completes the taste pallet of the gamma Carolus-beers. Name: "Hopsinjoor" is a wordplay to for one thing the several hops which were used, and on the other hand the typical character of Mechelen of Gouden Carolus: the figure "opsinjoor" is intertwined with the history of Mechelen (see: www.opsinjoorke.be/Opsinjoorke/opsinjoor.htm). Kind of hops: 4 types of hops are used: Golding, Spalt, Hallertau and Saaz. These hops were fractioned at several times in the cooking process in order to keep a maximum of aroma. Regarding to taste we can say that the beer has a gentle, but nevertheless bitter aftertaste. Gold-yellow colour. Hoppy aroma. 50 IBU / 18.6 Plato

Cloudy gold pour with a thick white head. Lightly fruity nose, citrusy, with a touch of hops. Flavor is sweet, fruity malt and yeast with an interesting blend of citrusy hops: a note of orange peel. Sharp tasting. Refreshing and good.

On tap at Cafe Amsterdam, in Anchorage. A golden yellow, very hazy. Good white head that leaves a strong lace. The nose is citrusy and sweet. The taste was about the same, a little earthy. Not very bitter for a four hop beer. Hides its 8% well. Overall a very easy and enjoyable drink.

Pours a very luminous straw color that is quite hazy, with extraordinarily large white head with large bubbles that leave copious amounts of lace behind. Nose is very, very fresh with citrus in general, but especially orange/coriander. On the palate the carbonation carries through wonderfully with balanced hops with sugary sweet malt in the background. In some ways this is like a hoppy witbier, with some of the candied flavors coming through (and appearance).

Hazy yellow with a with lasting creamy head. The aroma is strong but unrefined, boozy, messy. Too ethilic, warming. I dont like a blonde beer to be warming in this way. Unbalanced toward bitterness, a quite rough one.

Pours slightly hazy yellow with a gigantic head, loads of lacing. Aroma of alcohol, yeast, apricots, bread, citrus, a bit funky. The same notes returns in the flavor, along with a long bitter hop bite in the end. Its quite warming too. Light to medium body, quite sparkly.

THOUGHTS: One of the few Gouden Carolus beer I had not tried at this point. It was nice, but probably my least favorite of the bunch. It might have beer slightly skunked, The cork was in a little funny. It was sort of like Duvel, but not as quite as good in the flavor department. It hid the alcohol well. This one was a little too bitter for my taste. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a murky, and unusual, orangey yellow, similar to La Fin Du Monde. It also had a large to huge, creamy and slightly rocky, slightly off-white head that slowly diminished, keeping a nice sheet and leaving thick, excellent lacing. The aroma was moderate to heavy bread; moderate flowery, perfumy, grassy, citrus and earthy hops; light to moderate yeast and orange rind. The initial flavor was sweet and slightly bitter; while the finish was acidic, bitter and lightly sweet with a long duration. The flavor was malty, with citrus orange rind, then bitter, earthy and floral hops, yeast and then metallic hops. The light to medium body was somewhat dry with very fizzy carbonation and a light astringent, slightly metallic and dry finish.

Awesome beer. The appearance is a golden color, with a lovely tinge of orange, very attractive. The aroma is very nice as well, notes of lemon, orange peel, hops. The flavor is a nice fruity and hoppy mix, citrus fruits, sweetness, and citrus hop flavors, along with mild booze. The finish is pure hops, leaving a nice grapefruit bitter flavor on the palate. The moutheel is thin/medium. Enjoyable overall.

0.75l - Cloudy gold liquid under a thick, white head, nice lace. Sour smells, loads of hops on nose. Seltzerlike mouthfeel with a cinnamon note, and a long, dry, hoppy finish. Nice.

Tap @ Map Room. Pours cloudy yellow with thin head. I didnt think it had a crazy hop aroma by any means, which is sort of what I expected. It had the classic Belgian yeast aroma. It did have some bitterness, but sweetness from the Belgian yeast as well. Decent beer though.
