theprof (956) - Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, ENGLAND - MAR 10, 2017
Tried at the Leicester Beer Festival. Aroma is caramel malts and treacle. Pours brown with ruby lights and a tan top. The taste has more bitterness than I expected but ultimately the roasted malts prevail.

500ml bottle from Brewer’s Stand at NEC Good Food Show - Deep ruby black body, off-white head. Nose and taste are standard roast and toast, coffee, chocolate and liquorice. Not too bad.

Bottle from the brewer’s own stand at the Good Food Show at Birmingham NEC. Brown-black with a beige head and a light fizz. Roasty malt and chocolate in a rather light body. Pretty average.

ManVsBeer (10467) - Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, ENGLAND - JUL 18, 2016
Cask @ Calans, Hebden Bridge. Dark clouded brown with a small head. Has some very palatable dark and roasted malts in both aroma and taste.

Scopey (14731) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 15, 2016
Cask gravity at Duke of Wellington, Norwich. It pours hazy near black with a bubbly beige head. The aroma is earthy roasted malts, liquorice allsorts, umami and malt loaf. The taste is smooth, toast, liquorice, light ash, mild astringency, dry wood with a drying finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. A fairly ho hum porter. Drinks easy anyhow.

Draught (Gallows Bird, Espoo, Real Ale Festival 2016)
Black, small tight head. Very pleasant roasted aroma. Lovely soft palate, maybe a bit watery. Blackcurrant comes out in the nose. Alas just a hint of sourness in the taste, but it’s not off yet. At times a bit harsh and minerally. Finish beautifully roasty. Ups and downs, but I certainly warmed to it.

(Cask at Gallows Bird Real Ale Festival 2016) The beer poured black. Its head was small and nearly white. Aroma had dark chocolate, burnt malts and coffee. Palate was medium bodied with low carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, coffee, grass and bitterness. Aftertaste was burnt and bitter. A brew with good aroma and too burnt taste.
