Bottle. Copper with a beige foam. Aromas are toffee malts with fruity ripe Autumn fruit. Nutty with some traces of vinegar. Flavours are spicy with sweet toffee malts. Pear and citrus fruitiness with a fair degree of yeast. Quite decent. alexsdad06 (10638) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - JAN 1, 2009
500 ml bottle shared by Tmonet99 and shigadeyo. Pours a hazy orange amber color with a med/lg. yellowish beige head. The aroma sweet malts, herbs, nutty, sour, and caramel. The flavor had more caramel malt, nuts, mild sourness, alcohol, and spices. Light to medium bodied with good carbonation. Interesting but not my thing. Bottle from Taniguchi. Rich, malty nose like a doppelbock. Caramel, chocolate, nuts, raisins, and a bit of sherry or port. Very chewy. Reddish brown, lightly hazy, with a low lacy head. Rich malty flavor, nice tangy fruits, rich chocolate fudge, good bitter and tangy to balance. I really like this. Nice acidity with some citrus and light bitterness, but balances out well. Not sure if I get chestnuts per se, but it is a bit nutty. full but not heavy. Very nice stuff. DuffMan (10596) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 16, 2012
Notes from my iPhone. On tap @ Purple Pig. Slightly hazy golden amber with a very wispy fine head. Aroma is of sweet cereal, lightly spicy, and with more of a buckwheat aroma than anything nutty. Creamy soft mouthfeel, flavours of dates, light spice, vague fruit (quince maybe?). Again, nothing distinctly nutty, but a pleasant ale nonetheless. Cloudy dark amber with medium off white head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, rye bread and caramel. Flavor likewise with a sweet boozy end.

Pours clear dark amber color with a small head. Bready nutty aroma, some chestnut, mild berries, hops and dried fruits. Bitter malts on the flavor, some spice notes, yeast and bread. Decent, maybe a bit too sweet.
bottle. surprisingly not a gusher.
pours cloudy amber, off-white head.
aroma, brown sugar, chestnuts, caramel and yeast
flavor, malty quickly followed by a nice chestnut, possibly champagne yeast with a light fizzy head, candi/brown sugar, medium carbonation with yeasty palate meshed with caramel, nutty palate and caramel. Lightly chocolaty/chestnut finish. Alcohol is mellow for a smooth mouthfeel.

Red-amber beer with small transparant head. Toffee, caramel, plywood, and a few phenols in the nose. Leafy, shrubbery flavours, sweet and full bodied, obviously influenced by the chestnuts. Slick, nearly viscous, warming sensations. Good strong ale, chestnuts help without imposing themselves; a bit pity about the nose. GT (10002) - San Diego, California, USA - DEC 31, 2011
Tap at Churchkey. Pours flat, cloudy, reddish tea deep amber. Nose is Christmas spices with fruity pumpkin. Taste is astringent, overly spiced, ultra tea tannic, very over sparged feel. Tannic and dry. Bland spice character. Not a fan. Skinnyviking (9670) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - AUG 15, 2008
Bottle. High creamy and lasting off-white head. Hazy dark red brown body. Good malty, caramel nut aroma. Relatively sweet flavor of caramel and nuts with just a bit of bitterness which is not staying for long though. Alcohol well hidden. Low carbonation.
