Clear brown pour, smallish tan head. Flavors of a standard nutty brown, a bit of vegetal notes, herbs, super light barrel notes. Really kinda let down. Thin body.

White waxed 22oz bomber pours with a clear deep copper body that supports a near white head of foam. The aroma has brown sugar, molasses and a mild sweet booziness in the background. The taste is pretty nice with maple syrup, vanilla sweetness, malt sweetened roasted malts, molasses and then faint smooth bourbon booze. This is coming across way better than I was expecting as the barrel notes only add modestly to the experience rather than smoother everything. Well crafted product.

Medium clear brown with sparse head, aroma and taste of chocolate first, dark malt second. Very sweet in overall presentation, but tasty.

UPDATED: DEC 22, 2013 Wax topped bomber from BevMo. Pours a clear, chestnut, bronze color with a thin khaki head and big bubbles of carbonation. Aroma is very roasted malt with almost a coffee kick to it. Tastes like a decent brown ale with some coffee. About the only thing I get from the barrel treatment is a hint of vanilla and booze in the finish. Nice base brown but the barrel is faint. Since the bottle actually has pieces of barrel inside it, I wonder if the barrel notes with increase with age and increased exposure to the beer?

Bottle; poured a ruby/auburn color with a dark khaki colored head. Aroma of wood, earth, caramel, fruit, veggies and alcohol. Flavor was somewhat weird, with maybe some wood and meat notes that didn’t quite click. Almost leathery. With warmth some more sweetness and caramel emerge. A bit messy overall, but not too bad.

This beer isn’t bad just kinda forgettable. Pours dark amber with a slight white head. Aroma is sweet malty with a touch of maple. Light bodied amber ale with a touch of sweetness and a very subtle wood bourbon character.

Light Carmel corn nose and tongue. Carmel and hop bite. Where is the bourbon the barrel or the happiness? ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours with minimal head, amber. Aromas of vanilla and bourbon, spirits, wood, slightly thin in feel, lightly creamy, evident alcohol, faint bits of biscuit, light sherr. Finishes slightly peppery.

Draft. Dark brown, almost black. Small light brown head. Really nice bourbon barrel character that doesn’t dominate; vanilla, chocolate, caramel, coffee. Low alcohol presence. Medium to light body. Fair roastiness. Moderate sweetness and moderate to light bitterness. Soft and creamy. A bit thin. Quite nice, but would be a knockout if it were a bit bigger.

kathouse (1942) - LAS VEGAS, Nevada, USA - MAY 5, 2014
Red, fairly clear, but with no foam. The only brown is the sugar aroma. Slight bourbon, molasses, sweet malt in a very light body. Some vanilla in the finish. Would definitely not call this a flavor bomb. It’s not bad.
