Bottle; color of dark brown/black. Aroma of molasses, brown sugar, and smoky bacon. Flavor was the same with a good dose of smokiness.
From Apr 2008
This pours from 22oz bottle a dark brown with some reddish highlights and a very small head of foam that disappears almost immediately. Almost no lacing.
The smell has notes of dark fruit, roasted and caramel malt, and a touch of smoke.
The taste is very malty! Lots of caramel up front with good roasted malt notes and a goodly amount of smoke that works very well with the malt. Second sip in and the dark fruit comes more to the forefront with notes of raisin and prune and to a lesser degree, some black cherry and a wee bit more smoke. I'm certainly liking the flavours here and the abv doesn't come into play at all which kicks up the drinkability factor big time.
The body has a medium mouthfeel to it except right at the finish where it thins out a bit but that's not much to really complain about. This is a very tasty example of the style and my hat's off to the brewers.
Bottom line: This is a very tasty Scotch Ale that should please a lot of the fans of the style. I'll buy it again!

Bottle. Peaty smoke aroma with notes of dark fruit, toffee and molasses. Pours dark brown tinged with a hint of ruby and has a this tan head with some lacing. Starts smooth with a very rich mouth feel with toffee, molasses and dark fruit flavors. Finishes a bit on the dry side with smoked peatiness coming through and lingering heavily on the palate. Quite nice. ajnepple (7065) - Denver, Colorado, USA - SEP 13, 2014
12 oz bottle. Brown and clear appearance with a lacy tan head. Aroma and flavor of toasted malts, caramel, light smoke, toffee, lightly bitter resinous hops and mild to medium sweetness. Rich, smooth and creamy with a medium body and a lingering finish. jrodooo5 (1718) - DOVER, Delaware, USA - MAY 19, 2014
A nice scotch! Average ruby red pour w/ a big fluffy white head that leave spotty lacing. I’m a huge fan of the bold aroma that’s pretty unique compared to most scotch’s. Taste is flavorful & pretty complex but the palate is slightly thin. Overall, a very solid beer! DenverLogan (1264) - North Bend, Washington, USA - NOV 20, 2013
On tap in September at Stapleton Tap House. Pours near black with significant head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, light coffee. Moderate carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of roasted malts, powder sugar, mild coffee. Overall full bodied, tasty...an easy drinker!

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a red tinge, tan head that laces and stays on the edges. Smells of smoke, peat, caramel, and light fruit notes. Flavor is roasted malt, caramel, light fruit, and a light bitter finish. Medium bodied. ajtrupp (340) - Broomfield, Colorado, USA - JUL 27, 2013
The smokey aroma on this really jumps out. I feel bad because I always miss these subtle flavors until I read other reviews and go, "Oh, that's what that is." The molasses does stand out, along with the black cherry. This is a really tasty beer, hopefully I see it around more often.

Bottle; very dark auburn/brown with not much head. Aroma of smoke, bacon, molasses, and caramel. Pretty easy to drink; some sweetness, caramel, smoked meat, and molasses. arminjewell (9720) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - JUN 26, 2013
Pour out of 12 oz bottle, dark brownish red pour with thin to no head, aroma brought notes of lots of peat, smoke, some slight raisin, dark fruit, touch of caramel, dark candied sugars. Taste is a mix of smoke, peat, but pretty tame compared to the taste, hints of raisin, slight burnt malts, hints of ashy notes going into burnt sugars, finishing earthy, dry.
