Appearance: Clear copper colour with a large white head. Aroma: Aroma is biscuity & mildly sweet malt, herbal & earthy hops. Flavour: Both malt & hops start off subtly but build as you get into it, developing into a marmalade character in the finish. At 6.5% abv and 70 bitterness units, this is big beer and a classic English rendition of the style

Bottle thanks to Matt7215. Pours a cloudy orange with thick white head. Aroma surprisingly light on hops, strong malt, and a bit of spice. Flavor is a bit uncharacteristic, but pleasant. I cant quite put my finger on these Grand Rivers, but they have this earthy, semi-metallic (but pleasant) taste, and this one is no different. Fits this style a little better than others, quite nice in the end.

Appearance: Pours an orange, golden body with an average-sized head that thins rather rapidly. Smell: Biscuity a little but not much else. Too muted and even as it warms, it doesnt really open up too much. Taste: Very mild bitterness that sticks in the mouth after the sip. Some citrus leaning towards grapefruit, very nice. Mouthfeel: Fleeting but nice. Rather low carbonation.

Pours dark amber with a good white head. Aroma is biscuit, toffee with some citrus fruits. Taste has a decent balance of hops and malts with a bit of bitter. Not a bad beer.

Appearance: clear medium amber with two fingers of fluffy ivory head, excellent retention and good lacing. (5/5) Aroma: bready caramel and toffee malt, herbal/floral, citrus, pine, earthy. (6/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate-high bitter. (6/10) Medium slightly oily body, moderate carbonation, short duration moderate bitter lightly spicy and warming finish. (3/5) Let me beat you to it: yes, its a toss-up whether the name of this beer is more appropriate for me, or whether Arrogant Bastard deserves that distinction. Moving on! Definitely an English style IPA: although there is in fact a little citrus and pine in there, its buried towards the back. The malt definitely leads the way, following which is a fruity herbal and floral note (though there seems to be some brown apple or stone fruit developing as the pint warms). In true curmudgeon style, I was initially less than impressed with this, but it does have a distinct and not unpleasant character that Im warming up to. (13/20)

bottle. Poured hazy amber with a creamy off white head. Spicy hop aroma. Medium body, creamy with a dry tart finish. Balanced malty/hop brew, sweet caramel, tart grapefruit and peppery hops. Not overwhelming or too alcoholy,

HKdIPA (775) - HONG KONG - JUL 13, 2015
Bottle from LCBO in Ottawa. Clear dark amber copper pour, minimal head. Aroma is mostly toffee bread malt, not much hops. Taste has some piney bitterness but again mostly bread/toffee malt. Some lasting bitterness. Not great but not bad.

Bottle - 500ml. Amber body with an instantly fading white bubbly/creamy head. Ordinary malty/hoppy aroma with brown sugar and woody hints. Its decent malty/hoppy taste carries woody and grainy notes. Ends with a decent bitter/woody finish. Under average IPA.

Bottle from the LCBO. Clear medium copper with a tiny off white head that disappears quickly. Nose is mostly biscuit and light toffee with only a slight floral note. Medium light toffee over light bitter hops. Medium oily mouth with slightly soft carbonation. Drinks more like an ESB than an IPA.

A mild IPA with a clear amber colour. Light on the tongue with a gentle bitterness at the end. Not quite a true IPA but a fine drink none the less.

Comes in a 500ml bottle in the LCBO with a hand drawn looking green and orange label with curmudgeon-y frown face. Dont let the angry man vibe deter you as this is a unique ale. It has yellow-amber colour and an earthy, floral smell. Sharp on the first sip, malty flavours eventually come forward and grow more pronounced as the drink reaches room temperature. This beer has a sharp aftertaste full of pine and resin (typical of many well hopped IPAs) but its not crazy. Its well balanced. Contrary to popular belief, curmudgeons arent just angry old men. They are independent and resist trends.
