Strong bourbon on the nose. Dark with a thin head. Bourbon, coffee, maybe slightly fruity taste. Very good. jackl (8271) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - DEC 19, 2015
Keg @ Happy Gnome. Deep brown pour with a tight khaki head. Toasty sweet malts and sweet chocolate syrup. Vanilla fudge. Almost nutty malt character. Hot finish. Full and substantial. Good . Pailhead (6543) - Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA - NOV 20, 2015
On tap: The aroma consists of moderate black chocolate, anise, and mild oak. It’s a dark brown with no transparency and a small khaki head. The flavor starts with moderate chocolate, light caramel, and molasses. The finish has mild bourbon, vanilla, coconut, and faint roast. It’s medium bodied with light-moderate carbonation. jcr (2719) - Jasper, Indiana, USA - JUL 11, 2014
750 ml. Opaque black body with a frothy, tan head. Aroma of oak, bourbon, roasted malts, tart cherries, vanilla. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter and lightly acidic. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet, lightly bitter and lightly to moderately acidic. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. Tart and woody tasting, too much so to allow its other characteristics come through in the flavor. Too bad, after such a promising nose.

Nice light brown fizzy shortlasting head. Aroma is slightly sour-ish roasted, oak, dark malts, dried sour-ish dark fruits, caramel, hay, vanilla, dark sugar, sour coffee, grass, mild slightly spiced whiskey, hints of unripe banana. Taste is slightly dry sour-ish, oak, grass, cocoa, grain, dark malts, hay, coffee, whiskey, minerals, burnt caramel, vanilla. Medium bitterness, watery and slightly dry mouthfeel. Fair enough, kind of boring and disappointing.
Bottle thanks to Daniel. Pours a dark brown with beige head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is oak, booze, and roast. Thin mouthfeel with light nuttiness and chocolate, hides alcohol well, very good. steeleliver (130) - Minnesota, USA - NOV 19, 2013
On tap at the Yard House, Denver (but really what isn’t). Pour was dark black with tan head, although the coloration wasn’t as beautiful to my eye as a stout should be. Woodsy bourbon flavoring, which yields some depth, but turns out a bit more bitter than is ideal for my taste. Solid stout, worth a try. Kind of a dumb name though, could they use more adjectives? On tap at whole foods. Pours out pitch black topped with a small tan head. Nose is bourbon roast chocolate and molasses. Taste is as the aroma with the bourbon barrel ringing vanilla chocolate sweetness roast and a touch of bitterness on the end. JohnGalt1 (1721) - Boise, Idaho, USA - OCT 31, 2013
Mini-Growler fill tonight from Whole Foods for ~$12.... Pours with a long lasting brown head.... nice lacing.... the brew is the expected black.
Let this warm up significantly for the full effect.. Fridge temperatures really mute the aroma... The nose shows as almost tootsie roll... fudgy and vanilla... bigger roasty char than I was expecting.
Not as much barrel presence on the palate as I hoped for, but it is still there... good standard RIS flavors with a light smack of vanilla/oak.. plenty of dark fruits.
Body is lighter than many of the big boys but is appropriate for a lower ABV... Carbonation is light and lends to a more creamy mouthfeel.
Pretty good... Glad I got the chance to try this one.
