Head is initially small, frothy, white, fully diminishing.
Body is dark yellow.
Aroma is lightly malty (grain), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with a strong note of banana, light note of clove.
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Medium body, syrupy texture, lively carbonation.
Ultra-simple banana-dominated aroma doesn’t offer much for the nostrils, and the syrupy sweet mouth experience isn’t much fun either. Poor appearance for the style...tiny completely vanishing head is nothing like most Weissbier. A really uninspiring example. BuckeyeBoy (7680) - Boise, Idaho, USA - DEC 7, 2010
Picked up a couple of these tonight at the COOP... shared one with inflatablechair.... We both thought this is a pretty damn respectable and very fresh tasting hefe.
Why this is named "Howling Wolf" when the Cellar Reserve Weizenbock already had the moniker first is very confusing. I bet it will only be a few weeks before we start seeing reviews under the Weizenbock that actually should be in the hefe category... oh well... I don’t care... this is a classy brew.
1" foamy white head... great retention and lacing.. the brew is hazed golden.
Nose is very fresh of course... balanced nicely between the esters and the phenols... although both seem a tad light... banana and clove play nicely but are not quite as heavy as I would hope for... but that is my PNW mindset playing games.
Not much to say about the flavor that I haven’t already said... the banana begins up front and the clove sorta finishes out.. the palate is better than the aroma by quite a bit in my mind...
Medium/lite body seems spot on... carbonation is also about perfect..
Nothing is wrong with this beer... damn good actually.
I forget how refreshing a well made hefeweizen can be.. I will definitely be picking these up while I can.

12oz bottle picked up at The Grapevine Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - APR 21, 2013
Appearance: Hazy orange with a small white head and some lacing
Aroma: Banana, coriander and clove
Taste: Banana, clove, wheat and citrus
Nice and refreshing
Bottled. Poured slightly cloudy straw golden with a short, sticky white head. The aroma picked up sweet, juicy banana, bubblegum, and vanilla with earth and biscuity accents.. solid components, but it seemed a bit old. The flavor found banana and dank wheaty notes at the core with odd fruity notes and tangy wheat around.. finished funky with strange sugars and metallic tanginess. Light-bodied and fairly sharp on the palate.. this got worse as it warmed up.. I’ll give ’r another shot if I see a fresh one. Iphonephan (6988) - Jackson Hole/McLean, Virginia, USA - JAN 31, 2015
Pours a cloudy gold with a thick white head. Yeasty nose. Flavors of lemon and tropical fruits. Medium bodied and carbonation. Smooth finish.

courtesy of ericandersnavy. Hazy golden color/ fleeting head. Tart wheat, clove, mild banana aromas. medium bodied. Tart wheat, lemon, clove, honey malt flavors. 5000 (6862) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - APR 28, 2013
Bottle:   Orangish straw, some sediment, moderate sudsy white head, sparce lacing.   Sulfuric wheaty nose.
Soft fruity and wheatiness on the tongue.   Does have that little bit of fart aspect coming across on the tongue.
Backside does show a little bit of bubblegum and banana, slight clove.   Has a wheaty body, feels moderate.
Finishes quick, the German Hefe like flavors are gone in a flash, leaving only a bit of wheatiness.   Not too bad, has
some German Hefe aspects, but the nose and start with the sulphur detracts. ajnepple (6622) - Denver, Colorado, USA - FEB 22, 2014
12 oz bottle from Tipsy’s into a goblet. Pale, orange, unfiltered appearance with a white head and light lacing. Aroma of bready malts, coriander, citrus fruits, banana, spices, noble hops and herbs. Similar flavor, pretty light and refreshing, finishing on the sweet side. Pretty balanced and sessionable. Patrickctenchi (6590) - Cox’s Knob, columbus, Indiana, USA - FEB 10, 2014
