COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Howling Wolf Weisse Bier is an unfiltered Bavarian-style Hefeweizen. Brewed with a hearty amount of wheat, this Weissbier pours a light clouded golden color with a generous head. Gently hopped to balance the malt sweetness, Howling Wolf’s flavors and aromas are subtle with a hint of fruit and spice. At 5% alcohol by volume, this light-bodied ale is a refreshing session beer for any time of year.

Nightcap at Matt’s, 28/10/13, packing the beer-case- purchased from Whole Foods, Redwood City, CA. Streaming, thinly misted gold. Aroma peardrops rubber and overripe banana. Orange barley sweets and banana candy taste simplistic with paper-thin wheat and fizz. Had worse. But a little did get tipped.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, white, fully diminishing. Body is dark yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (grain), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with a strong note of banana, light note of clove. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, syrupy texture, lively carbonation. Ultra-simple banana-dominated aroma doesn’t offer much for the nostrils, and the syrupy sweet mouth experience isn’t much fun either. Poor appearance for the style...tiny completely vanishing head is nothing like most Weissbier. A really uninspiring example.

Bottled. Poured slightly cloudy straw golden with a short, sticky white head. The aroma picked up sweet, juicy banana, bubblegum, and vanilla with earth and biscuity accents.. solid components, but it seemed a bit old. The flavor found banana and dank wheaty notes at the core with odd fruity notes and tangy wheat around.. finished funky with strange sugars and metallic tanginess. Light-bodied and fairly sharp on the palate.. this got worse as it warmed up.. I’ll give ’r another shot if I see a fresh one.

12 oz bottle from Tipsy’s into a goblet. Pale, orange, unfiltered appearance with a white head and light lacing. Aroma of bready malts, coriander, citrus fruits, banana, spices, noble hops and herbs. Similar flavor, pretty light and refreshing, finishing on the sweet side. Pretty balanced and sessionable.

Bottle:   Orangish straw, some sediment, moderate sudsy white head, sparce lacing.   Sulfuric wheaty nose.   Soft fruity and wheatiness on the tongue.   Does have that little bit of fart aspect coming across on the tongue.   Backside does show a little bit of bubblegum and banana, slight clove.   Has a wheaty body, feels moderate.   Finishes quick, the German Hefe like flavors are gone in a flash, leaving only a bit of wheatiness.   Not too bad, has some German Hefe aspects, but the nose and start with the sulphur detracts.

Bottle: Pours slightly hazed yellow-gold with a small, soapy, white head. Yeast, banana, wheat aroma. Banana, clove, yeast taste.....sweet. Light, but lively. Not bad.
