Howling Wolf Weisse Bier is an unfiltered Bavarian-style Hefeweizen. Brewed with a hearty amount of wheat, this Weissbier pours a light clouded golden color with a generous head. Gently hopped to balance the malt sweetness, Howling Wolf’s flavors and aromas are subtle with a hint of fruit and spice. At 5% alcohol by volume, this light-bodied ale is a refreshing session beer for any time of year.

[Tap] Hazy pour is light yellow in color. About an inch of foam on top. Highly carbonated. Aromas of yeast, wheat malt, mild banana esters and light grass. Taste is pretty similar, with banana and wheat malts coming out the most. Mild citrus finish. Not getting much clove like one would expect. Lighter in body. A fine beer, but definitely lighter in body and less flavorful than than the better examples of the style.

Bottle. Cloudy golden body. Small, white head. Light aroma of clove, bubble gum, grain. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. A slight tartness finishes things off. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Taste of clove and bleach in the aftertaste. Homebrew kit-like.

12 oz bottle. Cloudy yellow orange with a white spotty head. Aroma banana, clove and fruity wheat. Flavor is more fruity wheat malt with a light yeast tartness and some bread. Medium to light body with average carbonation. Nice easy drinking Hef.

Poured a finger and half of head on a cloudy medium straw colored body. The aroma is banana and apricot. Nice. The taste has some banana, mild sweetness and a chalky mild bitterness. It ran a little watery at the end. The texture is fizzy and light with moderate carbonation. This is a good hefe.

12oz bottle. Hazy blond wth a creamy white head. Spicy ad phenolic aroma with a big sweet ripe banana fruitiness. Sweet and sticky with a full body and medium carbonation. Fruity ad sweet stuff. A bit hard to put down by the end.

Pours hazy goldenrod. A pretty vigorous pour yields only a smallish fizzy white head which soon dissipates. Not very weissebier-esque. After a few minutes it appears completely still, with no ring of foam or lacing; pretty unattractive overall. Aroma is big on bananas, with lesser accents of vanilla and bread. Mostly one-dimensional though. Flavor is tasty if a little on the sweet side. Vanilla and banana up front with a crackery malt note and a touch of roast (?!) if I concentrate hard enough. Not really sure what’s going on here, it seems like maybe they used American ingredients with a German yeast strain or something. It’s a minor quibble but something doesn’t mesh quite right. The body is flabby and the carbonation is lacking, hurting the drinkability.

Hazy straw yellow gold, foamy white head. Aroma of banana, clove, dirty wheat, orange. Taste is pretty good, it’s been a while since I had a German Hefe and it drank pritty good. Nice and crisp, a little perfumey.
