Pours black with an aroma of coffee, malt , and some hops. Flavor is more like a hoppy porter. Not a lot of hops but has the sweetness and coffee flavor of a good porter with more hops. I enjoyed it.

Shared with Strykzone on Facebook Chat. Pours opaque...nearly black. Tan head Nose of citrus and pine. Smells like an IPA for sure. Medium body Not full as they claim. There is some roasted malts, but mostly this smells and tastes like a regular IPA. Starts and finises bitter. Gets better as it warms and pine appears. Nice brew. 12 oz. bottle from hayduke that we had together via facebook chat. Black pour with a tan head. Heavy lacing on the glass. Aroma of black licorice and citrus. This is quite bitter with grapefruit and melon zest. Just a little roasty and plenty earthy with some chocolate and dark malts. Hops lead. This is like drinking two different beers. The IPA one and the dark malt one. They don’t really meld into one organism. It is one that might score higher than it deserves. SlovakSniper (5561) - Candiac, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 3, 2016
On tap at Paragon. Pours black with beige foam and curtains of lace. Taste is roasty, dry, leafy hop bitterness in the finish, a tad tart. Aroma is tobacco ash, minerals. Not bad. Xenon (143) - Cary, North Carolina, USA - MAR 2, 2016
I liked this. It almost tasted more like a stout than an ipax, which was interesting. Bitter but very malty and roasty. I don’t sense the citrus too much until the end but still enjoyed it

Draft @ Growler Guys. Dark brown pour with an ample tan head. Nose is a little floral, piney hops. Light roast. Flavor is roasty with moderate piney bitters. Some hints of chocolate and the bittersweetness that comes with it. Heavier roast in the taste. Good. JohnGalt1 (1721) - Boise, Idaho, USA - NOV 5, 2015
1" dark tan head... the brew isn’t exactly black, instead a dark dark walnut with beautiful deep ruby highlites when held to a bulb. Good retention and lacing.
Nose shows a big blast of citrus hops and lesser dark malts.. the dark profile doesn’t really jive as much as some of the Black IPA’s I’ve had... the citrus elements seem too high to live harmoniously with the malty profile.
Big and bitter up front... oily pithy citrus hops ... dark malts are pretty heavy too, but verge too much on char territory for my liking.
Everything gets alot better with warmth, alot of warmth.. Near perfect body and carbonation given the ABV...
Pretty nice brew, but seriously, let this one warm up and enjoy it slowly for maximum presence. chinchill (5377) - South Carolina, USA - AUG 26, 2015
12 oz. bottle just purchased but with a bottled on date of 12-2014.
A: Pours black with a tan head. The head is thick, creamy , moderately durable, and leaves excellent lacing.
Aroma: has dark roasted grains with near equal hops (diminished by age?). Even with the relatively weak somewhat subdued hops (for style) there’s a nice interplay between the two contrasting aromas.
The flavor is reversed, with more hop intensity than malts. Faint dark toast, smoke and coffee. A hint of chocolate. Plenty of roasted malt flavor plus moderately intense piney-woody-herbal hops. It finishes mildly bitter with some coffee.
O: a pleasing and tasty Black IPA with good balance for style and well hidden alcohol. Both aroma and feel approach a higher rating. . Drake (14332) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 18, 2015
12 ounce bottle from Sam’s Quik Shop. Near black, large foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of chocolate, nuts, herbal and earthy hops. The taste is chocolate, roasted malts, nuts, earthy hops, dark fruits. Medium bodied, moderate lingering bitterness. bookman10 (1298) - Osseo, Minnesota, USA - JUN 17, 2015
Pours a deep brown, verging on black, with smallish, creamy white head. Aroma of burnt toast, chocolate, coffee, hops roasted grain. Flavor is a bit on the burnt side, with coffee, chocolate, and some leather notes, along with a touch of dark fruit and some hop bite. Alcohol content is well-hidden.
