22 oz. bottle. Pours very dark brown, just about black, with clear edges when held against sunlight. Moderate-large tan head that fades after the first quarter of the glass and leaves light lace. The aroma is wonderful with ample fresh coffee along with a bit of cocoa and vanilla. Very nice. The flavor is roasted malt, with the roast being just a bit harsh, with some coffee as well. None of the cocoa or vanilla found in the aroma. Moderate coffee and roast bitterness at the finish. tcane7 (1674) - Pennsylvania, USA - APR 8, 2012
Bomber. 9:30 PST. Pours dark brown, nearly black, with a thin tan head that produced good lacing. Aroma of coffee, cocoa, and hints of vanilla. Taste of coffee, caramel and chocolate malts. Well carbonated, sweet, and slight coffee bitterness on the back end. cstuartj (1020) - Washington, USA - APR 6, 2012

pours almost black, tan head. Coffee beans on the nose. Big coffee flavor on the palate, some bourbon as well. Very coffee forward in every way. northropfrye (3643) - Steinbach, Manitoba, CANADA - MAR 30, 2012
Dark brown colour with off white head. Not hugely aromatic, but definitely coffee. Taste is sweet like a porter with a touch of coffee. Nice beer.

Bottled sample. Almost black in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas are of freshly ground dark roast coffee, bourbon vanilla chocolates, and a touch of caramel malt. Strong coffee flavour upfront on the palate, backed by some elements of dark chocolate, sweetish malt, wet stones, and a hint of ash on the finish. Heavy bodied with a bit of char and acidity to balance the weight. Not up with the top tier coffee beers I’ve had, but very close too it. Good stuff. 750 ml bottle poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lasting tan head. Aromas of coffee, roasted malt and dark chocolate. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of coffee, roasted malt and bakers cocoa with a smooth dry lingering coffee finish. KAggie97 (3529) - Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA - MAR 16, 2012

Tap @ Avery, doing the 10th Annual Boulder Strong Ale Festival. Pours black with a small white head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, wheat, dried fruit. Taste is malts, coffee, bourbon, sweets, vanilla, dark dried fruit. Medium body, soft carbonation. 090312 onceblind (9867) - Denver, Colorado, USA - MAR 14, 2012
At Avery’s 2012 Strong Ale Fest. Black with a small creamy tan head. Enticing aroma of cold toddy and chocolate graininess. Slight vanilla in the nose as well. Taste is bright starting but quickly turns to a coffee tone. Kinda begins almost light fruity, but then gets cold coffee and light chocolate tones to finish. Feels a little disjointed.
