Mahogany with a light head and sheets of lace. Soapy and medicinal in the nose. Bitter citrus that blends well. Same hops in the flavor. Malty and hot. A bit too sweet. Would be good if it were not too sweet or hot. BeerandBlues2 (13310) - Escondido, California, USA - AUG 21, 2005
2005 Cellar Reserve bottle, 1 quart 1.8-oz. Pours hazy orange to brass with a medium foamy off-white head, edgy with large bubbles and lined blotchy lacing. Sweet caramel malt and alcohol aromas to start with perfumey fruit (pear, peaches) hops and a floral citrus nose. Notes of maple buttery sweetness in the aroma as well. Huge maple buttery malt initial flavor then transcends to moderate alcohol and a bitter acidic hoppy creamy malt body that finishes dry. Medium bodied palate, warm and spicy dry. ontario102 (794) - Boise, Idaho, USA - AUG 6, 2005
Bottle: The pour yields a moderate head that is fleeting over a cider-colored body; grassy and citric aroma, heavy pineapple sweet background; the flavor is initially sweet followed by substatial and long bitter finish; not much actual flavor, just pale malt and heavy cascade hoppiness; hot alcohol and grating finish; little to be impressed with here. NABA ’05: Nose of bright citrusy hops, they are everywhere with little malts. The flavor is overhopped with tons of bitterness and extreme sweetness. Not a long drinker but good for a sample. I could sit around sniffing it but I learned my lesson after drinking it.
