UPDATED: AUG 21, 2007 Dark black with a tan head that hung around for awhile. Aroma of malt, hops, roasted coffee beans. Flavor was similar but with added bitterness on the finish. Overall, the aroma and flavor were not strong and not very memorable. For a chain restaurant that is surely limited by what they are able to brew and the amount of creativity that goes into the brew, Broadaxe Stout does an average job. As a stout goes, again, average. detroiter (958) - Euphoria, Minnesota, USA - JAN 15, 2007
Pours a beautiful deep black with a good two inches of thick tan head. Excellent count-the-number-of-sips lacing. Sadly, I’ve now come to the point where I stop being impressed.
Very mild roasted grain in the aroma. A little bit of coffee in the flavor, but not much. Exceptionally mild taste, it isn’t even going to frighten away the beer novice. Thin body, not much character. This one proves that dark beers aren’t always bold, potent, or bitter.

A roasty dry lighter bodied stout. Not really bitter but a dominant roast character. Very light on the hops. Quite smooth finish. No real offensive notes. hellomynameis (876) - Mayer, Minnesota, USA - SEP 26, 2006
Completly opaque. Dark, dark brown with a tan head that is very fine foam. Aroma of roast malts, kinda nutty - but that could just be me. A bit watery palate, bt is still sticky. Sweet notes with roast flavours again. There are some chocolatey and caramel flavours in there as well. It’s a bit thin overall but still bests guiness KAggie97 (3529) - Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA - AUG 19, 2006
Tap at brewpub, Wichita, KS. Pours solid black with an olive-green head and lacing. Rubbery coffee aroma. Flavor is coffee and chocolate. Lighty and syrupy on the tongue. Solid melding of tastes and flavors.

Very drinkable, lots of rich creamy texture, with some dark malt chocolate and caramel, with some chicory notes, and a light bit of roasted coffee acidity. Pretty dry and bitter in the finish, a solid stout. GeneralGao (3614) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - JUL 12, 2006
Draught at the Cedar Rapids, IA location. Opaque black with foamy light brown head that left a thin, filmy lace on the glass. Smelled of chocolate and roasted malt with a hint of anise and a dash of molasses. Flavor was well rounded with chocolate and coffee notes, but was not as complex as the aroma. There was a pleasant subdued campfire smoke finish. Carbonation was on the low end, and it was creamy, dry, and earthy on the tongue. Pretty good beer. Draft at S.D. location. Black color with an average fizzy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate roasted coffee and chocolate aroma. Medium to full body with a dry creamy texture. Medium roasted sweet flavor with a sweet finish of moderate duration. This is a good drinkable brew and went well with the Asian food I had. glkaiser (1214) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JUN 30, 2006
Black with light brown head. Not bad. Lots of roasted malt taste. Smooth. I guess this is the best of their beers. Still not too good. bu11zeye (13029) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - JUN 14, 2006
(Draught) Pours a deep mahogany body with a desecnt creamy brown head. Aroma of chocolate and coffee. Flavor of roasted malt and coffee.
