Had on tap in Madison, WI in March 2013. This pours a dark brown color with a creamy light brown head. There is a sweet malt scent. The texture is pretty thin and light that is sweet, creamy with hints of cocoa. It’s fairly decent given the company as it compares pretty similar to Guinness. Tried it once, but probably not going to try again. detroiter (958) - Euphoria, Minnesota, USA - JAN 15, 2007
Pours a beautiful deep black with a good two inches of thick tan head. Excellent count-the-number-of-sips lacing. Sadly, I’ve now come to the point where I stop being impressed.
Very mild roasted grain in the aroma. A little bit of coffee in the flavor, but not much. Exceptionally mild taste, it isn’t even going to frighten away the beer novice. Thin body, not much character. This one proves that dark beers aren’t always bold, potent, or bitter.

20 oz draught. Pours a jet black. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, peat, smoke. Flavor is caramel, cocoa, medium roast coffee, slight hop balance. Dry finish. Hawksfan17 (890) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - APR 12, 2007
Pours black with a grey head with nice lacing. Smells of chocolate and coffee. It has a light, sweet, chocolate, roasted coffee flavor. It is creamy and smooth. hellomynameis (877) - Mayer, Minnesota, USA - SEP 26, 2006
Completly opaque. Dark, dark brown with a tan head that is very fine foam. Aroma of roast malts, kinda nutty - but that could just be me. A bit watery palate, bt is still sticky. Sweet notes with roast flavours again. There are some chocolatey and caramel flavours in there as well. It’s a bit thin overall but still bests guiness

Pours deep brown with a dark tan head. Light coffee and roast in the aroma. Same in taste. Light bodied and a touch weak but not offensive OD40oz (774) - Box Elder, South Dakota, USA - MAR 15, 2008
NIIIIIICE Brew. Dark with a tan foamy head. Roasty chocolatey coffee taste. I would definitely drink this again. I wish Rapid City had a Granite City so I wouldn’t have to be in Sioux Falls to go there. DWestrick (765) - Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA - FEB 8, 2008
UPDATED: FEB 16, 2008 Nice stout...had at Granite City in Fort Wayne on tap. dark color and tan head...i enjoyed drinking this beer...will have again. screigh (748) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - JAN 31, 2008
Looks good. Nitro tap with a cramy head. Lasts the whole beer with some lacing. VERY thin beer. Nice roasty flavor. Something very off in the finish. Tastes off, almost like dirty socks, wilnatp (720) - Minnesota, USA - FEB 7, 2012
TAP. This beer is a bit more watery that Guinness. It tastes of oats and chocolate, and slightly of burnt wood. Smooth mouthfeel from the nitro.
