On tap. Served a blackish color with a nice tan head that lasted with ample lacing. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Taste is same as aroma. Decent bitterness and a fairly dry finish. UPDATED: AUG 21, 2007 Dark black with a tan head that hung around for awhile. Aroma of malt, hops, roasted coffee beans. Flavor was similar but with added bitterness on the finish. Overall, the aroma and flavor were not strong and not very memorable. For a chain restaurant that is surely limited by what they are able to brew and the amount of creativity that goes into the brew, Broadaxe Stout does an average job. As a stout goes, again, average. Tap: Pours a nearly black dark brown and is capped by a modest yet sustained tan head. The aroma’s fairly light for any type of stout, but it’s come some bittersweet chocolate and roasted coffee there if you sniff hard enough. On tap in Granite City in Orland Park. Pours dark brown with thin tan head. Aroma is of roasted malts, chocolate and coffee. Draft at Cedar Rapids. With not too many micros to choose from in Iowa, I hate to knock any stout effort too strongly, but there’s just nothing remarkable about this beer. Tap, Omaha. Dark brown color with a thin, light beige head. Roasted malt, coffee and hints of caramel and dark chocolate aromas. Thin in feel. Some roasted malt and coffee in the flavors.
