UPDATED: AUG 21, 2007 Dark black with a tan head that hung around for awhile. Aroma of malt, hops, roasted coffee beans. Flavor was similar but with added bitterness on the finish. Overall, the aroma and flavor were not strong and not very memorable. For a chain restaurant that is surely limited by what they are able to brew and the amount of creativity that goes into the brew, Broadaxe Stout does an average job. As a stout goes, again, average. Tap: Pours a nearly black dark brown and is capped by a modest yet sustained tan head. The aroma’s fairly light for any type of stout, but it’s come some bittersweet chocolate and roasted coffee there if you sniff hard enough. A bit thin, but has a flavor of roasted malt & barley, coffee, chocolate, and some nuts. Dry finish.msante79 (2244) - Mount Prospect, Illinois, USA - AUG 10, 2008

On tap in Granite City in Orland Park. Pours dark brown with thin tan head. Aroma is of roasted malts, chocolate and coffee. Flavor is light with notes of chocolate and roasted malt with some biterness of coffee. A watered down version of guiness. BVery (11461) - Plymouth, Minnesota, USA - SEP 29, 2011
UPDATED: DEC 29, 2013 Tap. Nice dark brown/black pour with a nice foamy cream head. Really nice chocolate and coffee aroma. Palate is impossibly thin - kills this beer. Taste is watery with similar elements as aroma. robertsreality (2460) - Minnesota, USA - JUL 20, 2004

UPDATED: FEB 5, 2005 Maple Grove, MN: nice dark color with medium creamy head. Faint smell of coffee and chocolate. Seemed a bit thin and flat. Coffee and a hint of chocolate flavor lingered for a while but there just didn’t seem to be much to it. heemer77 (5361) - Urbandale, Iowa, USA - APR 30, 2005
Sampled at the Cedar Rapids branch. Thick slightly tan head with a black body. The nose os milk chocolate with coffee and amaretto. The taste is slightly bitter with milk chocolate and dried apples. Too much hops for the style. Unbalanced with a thin body. k2 (146) - USA - APR 14, 2007
A disappointing stout. Good color but no body to go along with the notes of chocolate malt and hops. AgedOak (99) - Ohio, USA - OCT 14, 2007
On tap in Omaha NE. Very dark brown color with a medium amount of head. Slight aroma of coffee and dark chocolate. Not much of a stout; flavor was very mild and very poor mouthfeel. Slight taste of chocolate and malt. Somewhat too watery. Scored a little higher than desrved but it is a stout nonetheless. vyvvy (6857) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - JAN 23, 2008
Pours quite dark with a dense tan head that was determined to say on there the whole time. The aroma is very light with a hint of cream. Medium rich body that gets light on the finish and has the expected sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with light cream, vanilla and some roasted malt. The finis is sour and almost fruity. Like all of the GC beers it is watery. Fair.
