Pours black with a grey head with nice lacing. Smells of chocolate and coffee. It has a light, sweet, chocolate, roasted coffee flavor. It is creamy and smooth.

Tap at granite city by Washington DC. Great thick dark pour and nose is oat and cocoa sweetness. Super smooth but not Much oat or other Notes except cocoa and a bit of roasted coffee. Would do again but will try something else next.

This reminded me of a modern porter mixed with a dry stout rather than a "traditional dry Irish Stout". However, it was very good for what I was expecting based on the reviews here. As black and opaque as a good stout should be, it featured a thick mocha head of foam that lasted throughout the pint. Aroma was roasted malts and a bittersweet cocoa. Good bitterness in the flavor department, quite creamy-tasting. Maybe a tad too watery for its style.

Nitro pour at GTMW. Poured deep brown with a tall, creamy beige head. The aroma picked up sweet, toasty chocolate and nutty notes accented by a hint of lactose. The flavor found sweet chocolate and toasted black patent maltage at the core.. vanilla and light coffee bitterness surrounded and complemented well.. good moderate level of roast. Medium-bodied and creamy on the palate, especially due to the nitro pour.. nicely toasted and balanced.. candy-like.

From the Jug at the GABF, Colorado Convention Center Denver 18/09/2010 Fruit and roast aromas. Black a little rich on the palate and fruity with a hint of dryness in a bitter burnt roast finish.

Had at their St Cloud Mn location. Dark brown appearance - very thick mocha colored head with good lacing. Has a very good smoky roasted flavor and aroma. Faint coffee and chocolate notes come through in the flavor and aroma. All in all - pretty impressed with my visit to Granite City - seems to be a formidable brewpub.

On tap at the Ft. Wayne Indiana pub. Dark beer with a thin lasting khaki foam on top. Subtle chocolate and coffee nose. Very smooth beer with lots of roasted grains, bitter chocolate and sweetened coffee flavors. I got an almost smoked bacon taste. Not bad for trucked in wort.

Dark brown with almost no head. Grainy roasted coffee and chocolate aroma and taste.

Aroma chocolate jet black color with tan head and lacing. Taste is dry, but not as dry as a Guinness. Best at granite city, but even this was a middle of the road stout. Very low hops, chocolate and very low sweetness. Would have again though
