Very drinkable, lots of rich creamy texture, with some dark malt chocolate and caramel, with some chicory notes, and a light bit of roasted coffee acidity. Pretty dry and bitter in the finish, a solid stout. patrick767 (4063) - fort wayne, Indiana, USA - FEB 15, 2008
25 oz draft - Pours very dark brown with a thin, long lasting tan head. It has a mild aroma of roast malt and some hops. The dark roast malt flavor has a good hops balance and a dry finish. It’s a little thin, but not too bad. Give it some time. Like most bars and brewpubs, they serve it too cold. I rather enjoyed it. noncaloric (684) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 22, 2008
UPDATED: MAR 9, 2009 Draft at Madison. Dark brown, creamy beige head, probably served on nitro. Aroma is not as muted as in some other nitro stouts, some nice roast malts going on. Flavor is roasted malts, some smoke and chocolate on the tail. Smooth, but somewhat thin bodied. A passable Guinness clone. shigadeyo (3749) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUL 30, 2009

11/28/2008: Granite City Broad Axe Stout is nitro-induced, os the near black beer is comes with an extremely cream and frothy tan-colored head and silky mouthfeel. The beer is dense, but smooth and has a nice roasty coffee aroma and flavor. It isn’t anything terribly unique or complex, but it goes down quite well nonetheless!
Draught (pint) at Granite City Food & Brewery in Maumee, Ohio. Rating #83 for this beer.
HonusWagner was kind enough to think of me on his travels across the county. Picked up from the brewpub in Fargo.
A: Pours a nice rich black hue. Very tall tan head that exhibied no real retention or lace.
S: Very mild aromas. Hints of toasted malt and coffee.
T: Roasted malty goodness. Nice coffee with very mild chocolate. A touch of sweet caramel to go along with a bit of lactic like sweetness.
M: Medium in body, ample carbonation, a bit of dryness in the finish.
D: Good, nice mild little stout. Michael can’t thank you enough for thinking of me during your travels.

Tap at GC Madison. Not quite opaque black burgundy. Massive beige nitro head. Smooth and luscious Stout..sort of in the Sweet Stout style. Nitro accentuates the watery GC body, but there is a lot of chocolate/oatmeal sweetness. Rather pedestrian and standard, but enjoyable enough. Coffee, roast tones. Surprisingly decent. Thin, dry and easy to drink. Nice roasted malt profile, just a tiny amount of coffee bitterness. kathouse (1913) - LAS VEGAS, Nevada, USA - NOV 9, 2015
Chocolate and coffee aromas. Listed as an Oatmeal Stout on the menu. Light/medium body, thin but enjoyable finish. I liked this beer. GenDV138 (7285) - Falls Church, Virginia, USA - FEB 20, 2016
4 oz pour on draft at Granite City National Harbor. Dark brownish black with light beige to tan head. Aromas of syrup and dark chocolate. Tastes of dark chocolate, syrup, light roast. Medium body with a dry finish. Somewhat creamy mouthfeel. geeklimit (292) - USA - OCT 21, 2016
Pours a coffee black with a brown cream head. Light aroma of oatmeal. Berry taste with a chocolate follow. Creamy mouthfeel and a light coffee aftertaste.
