wow...have to say this one is a damn fine looking beer! perfectly opaque held up to the light. head is definitely brown. aroma is a mixture of chocolate and coffee that comes off with a hint of gasoline..yeah, i think i'm nuts!! great coffee flavors but the body is a little thin...either way, this was a big surprise. muzzlehatch (4969) - Beloit, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 4, 2002
Yet another reason why Wisconsin qualifies as the Most Underrated Beer State. In addition to Lakefront (the best brewery in the USA, wanna make something of it?), Rowlands (haven't tried, but hope to soon!), New Glarus, Sprecher, Leinenkugels, we have this, one the the best sweet stouts in the world. Intensely vinous, coffee-and-caramel flavours vying for dominance, a lot going on in this one! 12/2001 rerating (bottle); not as sweet as I remember it from last year, but still very winey, with lots of coffee and roasted grain flavors as well. I downgraded it just a tad, but still holds its own with the best of them. 9/02 pretty close to last rating; great sweet stout, verging on the robust in its hoppier finish. Really more of a coffee stout. Very dark, high specific gravity beer. A hint of plum in the finish. MaxPower (961) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - JUL 20, 2002
Black in color, sweet coffee plum aroma, nice roasted flavor, not bad....... Troobie99 (60) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JUN 7, 2002
I should exempt myself from rating this beer, coming as I do from the stouty NW. Back when I was a grad student at Madison, though, I useta love to sit at the student union and drink this, watching the poor health nuts swimming in the lake. I'd generally call it a good stout, but on a summer day at the student union, it's great.

Not too strong of an aroma, but the flavor was nicely full-bodied, with a raisin-y / coffee taste. Recommended!
I had a bottle at the Water Street Brewery (in Milwaukee), unsure if local stores carry it. lizziesage (180) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - APR 12, 2002
An enjoyable oatmeal stout. The color is that of dark chocolate with a slight cream head. The aroma was nice and a bit fruity--perhaps raison. While the ale was a bit thin on the tongue the taste was full-bodied. The flavor was deliciously toasty; however it left a rather undesirable burnt taste in the after swallow. A bit thin, but everything else is spot on. A good session ale............. hutch914199 (107) - Wisconsin, USA - OCT 9, 2001
The Mircrobreweries of Wisconsin are making better, and better beer, and this is a great example, rich flavor, smooth finish. Blatz King (150) - Whitewater, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 19, 2001
I was very impressed with this beer. It had a hint of grapes and a lot of coffee taste. It was very good.
