12 ounce bottle from Woodman’s Madison West. Pours a very dark brown color with a large fizzy brown head. Fair head retention. Aroma of chocolate, oats, faint roast and a bit of a tart note. UPDATED: APR 15, 2012 Bottle. Aroma has notes of espresso, chocolate, molasses, roasted malts and some citrus hops. Dark brown hue that sits nearly black in the glass. Small fully diminishing head that left no lace. Flavor is medium sweet. Palate is medium bodied and watery soft. Overall a beer that smells good and tastes average but the rest is crap.

A: The pour is a very dark brown, almost black, with a small tan head.
S: Smells...bad. Like prunes and roast. Slight acidity to the nose with some acrid roast and coffee notes. There is some good sweetness of toffee and caramel, however.
T: What a terrible flavor. Watery and vegetal with an astringency to it and a weak coffee flavor in the background. Not any chocolate to speak of, almost no sweetness is present either.
M: Thin and watery on the tongue with a moderate level of carbonation.

Pours an opaque black with a one finger thick brown/tan head. Nose is chocolate, molasses and malt. Nice and creamy on the palate, the flavor is full of dark roasted malt with touches of chicory and nuts. Hop profile is light but helps with a crisp aftertaste. It starts out promisingly enough, with a healthy head and an aroma with a touch of chocolate to go along with a faint scent of hops. The body is light to medium and the texture thin, though, both of which are off for an oatmeal stout. The finish has a short, slight bitterness and then it disappears.
