Roast, sweet sugary malt, and mild fruit aroma. Dark Brown-Black with creamy tan head. Sweet malt with lite bitterness. Balancing roast with hints of coffee & chocolate. Lively carbonation, medium body, and mild bitter finish. sherm1016 (1279) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 17, 2011
12oz bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a thin tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate. Medium on the palate with average carbonation. Flavor is sweet, a little roasty, coffee, with a light bitter finish. Drake (14493) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 6, 2011
12 ounce bottle from Woodman’s Madison West. Pours a very dark brown color with a large fizzy brown head. Fair head retention. Aroma of chocolate, oats, faint roast and a bit of a tart note. The taste is caramel, coffee, roasted malts, chocolate and a tart finish. A bit thin. Decent. DasBierChef (1081) - Hudson, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 17, 2011
A very nice stout. Tasty and full bodied. A nice standard bearer for Gray’s polomagnifico (1202) - Saginaw, Michigan, USA - JUN 27, 2011
UPDATED: APR 15, 2012 Bottle. Aroma has notes of espresso, chocolate, molasses, roasted malts and some citrus hops. Dark brown hue that sits nearly black in the glass. Small fully diminishing head that left no lace. Flavor is medium sweet. Palate is medium bodied and watery soft. Overall a beer that smells good and tastes average but the rest is crap.

A: The pour is a very dark brown, almost black, with a small tan head.
S: Smells...bad. Like prunes and roast. Slight acidity to the nose with some acrid roast and coffee notes. There is some good sweetness of toffee and caramel, however.
T: What a terrible flavor. Watery and vegetal with an astringency to it and a weak coffee flavor in the background. Not any chocolate to speak of, almost no sweetness is present either.
M: Thin and watery on the tongue with a moderate level of carbonation.
O: Watery and awful in flavor, not a good combination. jebert (500) - Watertown, Wisconsin, USA - APR 30, 2011
Pours an opaque black with a one finger thick brown/tan head. Nose is chocolate, molasses and malt. Nice and creamy on the palate, the flavor is full of dark roasted malt with touches of chicory and nuts. Hop profile is light but helps with a crisp aftertaste. Overall, a very good beer, but not quite a great beer. Pairs well with pretzels and stone ground mustard. mrjaxson (650) - .08 Junction, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 19, 2011
It starts out promisingly enough, with a healthy head and an aroma with a touch of chocolate to go along with a faint scent of hops. The body is light to medium and the texture thin, though, both of which are off for an oatmeal stout. The finish has a short, slight bitterness and then it disappears. Pretty dull. murphym45 (779) - New York, New York, USA - DEC 28, 2010
Aroma is coffee, caramel, toffee, chocolate, oatmeal, maple. Taste is heavy and roasty but smooth. Dry with a faint bitterness. A bit lacking on the palate but pretty solid. dwm1034 (786) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 27, 2010
An old favorite....pours almost black with a reddish tinge; sweet / burnt (good thing) taste; sweet nose. Hints of coffee and chocolate to me...a good one...will have another
