At downtown Madison. Wanted so badly to like this but maybe the cask was old. A touch of stale soapy. Serving: Cask

tmoreau (4166) - Lombard, Illinois, USA - MAY 2, 2016
Cask sampler at the Doty St. location in Madison, WI., showing a rather clear, dark brown hue, with some amber highlighting, a light layer of brownish tan head foam that produced a persistent ring, and spots of lacing. The nose was roasted and dry, with some dark caramel notes. A little less than medium bodied, with typically fair carbonation for cask, a roasted & earthy bitterness with a touch of citrusy astringency, and a wisp of soapiness on the finish. 5.9% abv listed.

Sample at the downtown brewpub. Dark brown color with a medium tan head that recedes steadily to a film. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt, chocolate and coffee. Medium-bodied with flavors of roasted coffee, cocoa and burnt malt. The finish is roasty with a malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

Ceebs25 (503) - Naperville, Illinois, USA - JUL 8, 2012
On tap at the brewpub in Madison, WI. This was decent with a good roasted malt, but a bit too sweet and not enough hop. Lots of cocoa, and sweet caramel in the light nose. Body was decently strong and well carbonated, but not quite as creamy as I would have liked. More nutty notes, roasted grains, and mixed dark cereal malts in the flavor. Overall, theres some room for improvement I think.

Pawola22 (3262) - Woodridge, Illinois, USA - MAY 16, 2012
On tap at the brewpub in Madison, WI. Pours a black body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma has lots of roasts, some sweeter chocolates and light caramels, and a light piney hopping. Flavor is similar. Roasty, slightly sweet from the chocolate and light caramels, and lightly hopped. Finishes dry and roasty with a light bitterness and a light malt sweetness before leaving a lengthy aftertaste. Light body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, a decent porter. Nothing special, but enjoyable and easy drinking.
