I enjoyed this one a lot. What a great idea... something between a Scotch ale and a pale ale. Delicious hop flavor with a peatiness as well? All right!
Med. brown / caramel color. Cloudy ?Off white haed lingers and laces nicely. Smells of toast with anice touch of fresh air smell from the hops. med body. Good mouthfeel. Hops off set the malts. Good balance of caramel malt and hop bitterness. Will have again esjaygee (3904) - Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 19, 2011
On tap at Great Dane Fitchburg as Hopscotch. Clear dark caramel brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma of toffee, malt, light pine& citrus and grains. Solid taste of pine, toffee, nuts, toasted malt, some citrus and floral hops along with a minimal chocolate malt presence. Moderate bitterness, nicely balanced and easily the winner on this trip to the Great Dane. arkurzynski (2427) - Combined Locks, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 23, 2009
On tap at Fitchburg location. Dark amber/brown. Good citrusy/floral hop aroma. Taste is caramel and roast malts with typical bitterness for a Scotch Ale. Good hybrid between Pale and Scotch Ale. Most have been some good dry-hopping going on. noncaloric (684) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 20, 2009
Clear medium brown with a significant creamy beige head, leaves a good lace. Light sweet floral hops aroma, with a bit of cream soda in there, too. Flavor is a fairly simple pairing of caramel and floral hops. Hops bitterness subdued, really just offsetting an otherwise sweetish beer. The first few sips had a carbonic sharpness that paired poorly with the rest of the beer, this faded. Medium body, smooth palate.

I am truly sorry Dane, but this is the most dissapointed and dejected I have ever felt in my entire life. This beer made me want to go next door to Club Majestic and jump off the balcony headfirst while the worst music known to man bumped through the PA. JPDIPSO (6223) - Wauwatosa, USA - OCT 12, 2004
(Fitchburg) Copper color with a rolling off white head. Interesting dark rich caramel with heavy hops influence (mild pine and citrus). Light peat and heavier caramel flavors overtaken by floral and licorice hops bite. Things don’t seem to meld for me. Hops distract too much. Finish of licorice and caramel, with a touch to much licorice for my tastes. tomxcs (321) - California, USA - JUL 10, 2004
This beer seems to be a cross between a scottish ale and an APA/IPA. It is a medium to dark brown, slightly reddish/copper. The aroma is rather weak, but the taste is quite hoppy. Malt is evident, but not like in a scottish or brown ale. A pale ale-type mouthfeel, although slightly watery. It is a flavorful beer that would be a good addition to the regular menu.
