COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
To celebrate the brewery’s 19th Anniversary, Great Divide’s brewers deviated from previous years’ anniversary ales and developed an entirely new recipe. The label reads, 19th Anniversary Ale isn’t just a wood-aged ale. It’s a compass – a reminder of where we’ve been and where we’re going. Brewed with pure birch syrup and aged on birch wood, this beer embraces reverential tradition and revolutionary innovation. As we celebrate our 19th year, we hope you’ll join us for the road ahead.

650 ml bottle from bev4less. Pours a translucent copper color with a small white head that has fair retention. The aroma is somewhat indistinct with sweet fruit cocktail and grains. The taste is bittersweet with the syrup nicely counterbalanced by wood and sawdust, there is a touch of hot alcohol. The palate is full and viscous with soft carbonation. The finish is short, dry and forgettable. Overall: not bad, but not much to recommend it either.

Old notes. Bottle at home, 2013-08-23.
App: Honey golden with a slight mist and a cream white fine head leaving a nice speckled lace.
Aroma: Caramelly sweet and citrus hoppy with burnt almond confect, spun sugar, oranges and grapefruit, carambola, banana peel, sauna wood, pine and alcohol.
Taste: Pretty sweet and marmalade fruity with bright tropical fruits like oranges, grapefruit, carambola and mango with some pale syrup, pine, alcohol and wood.
Palate: Big body with soft "popping" bubbles. Sticky texture.
Overall: Big, sweet, warming, sticky and bitter. Maybe not all too fresh and also a bit sticky sweet...ah what the heck, it’s pretty good!

(Bottle) Pale orange colour with frothy, off-white head. Fruity, malty nose with apricots, citrus, fresh wood, pineapple, toast and a whiff of alcohol. Malty, fruity taste with citrus, apricots, fresh birch wood, vanilla, toast, pineapple, grapefruit and a generous citric bitterness in a finish with a certain alcohol glow. Almost full body, sweet. Soft and rounded malt character, but the wood and alcohol gets a bit dominant after a while. Quite nice.

Enwiebe (318) - - MAR 14, 2015
3/14/15. Bomber bottled May, 2013. Mild citrus and pine nose. Birch is definitely the primary flavor. Alcohol is not dominating and has rounded out a bit. Nice strong ale but nothing special. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
