COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrel Aged Yeti Imperial Stout has been aged for 20 months in used barrels from Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey, Colorado’s only whiskey maker. The rich and robustly roasted beer of 12.2% ABV and 75 International Bittering Units (IBUs) picks up flavors of oak, vanilla and whiskey through the extended aging process. These flavors add greater complexity to the already rich beer, while tempering its assertive nature.

“Our intent,” says Great Divide founder Brian Dunn, “was to age each beer in the barrels for 9 months. But we got busy with other projects, primarily the addition of a new bottling line, and the beers ended up aging for more than a year and half.” While the labels on the bottles state that the beers were aged 9 months in barrels, both beers were in fact aged 20 months in barrels.

Release limited to 470 bottles.

Heavy flavor is more elusive in this version like, well, bigfoot... Whiskey overrides lots of subtlety. Roast and vamilla here, some dark chocolate. Black pour with good head and lacing. Bitter finish with booze. Tap at Barrel tap room.

750ml bottle (RBESG2017 Grand Tasting) (6:4:7:4:14=3.5)
Kinda boosty aroma, rich full roast, and sweetish whiskey aspects, vanilla. Even more vanilla in the taste, sweet and roasty. Pretty mellow, full palate, and pleasant carbonation, but there’s no hiding the heat, alas.

Roast, dark chocolate, caramel, woody, vanilla in taste. Dark chocolate, vanilla and roast in aftertaste. Pleasant mouthfeel. Alcohol is hidden. Really opens up as it warms. Very solid brew.

It pours midnight black with a dense burnt orange head. The aroma has cocoa, deep roast, dark caramel, coconut, vanilla, cream and some barrel. It has a full body with moderate carbonation. The taste has heavy roasted malt, woody oak/hops, bourbon, vanilla and lingering alcohol. Really nice.

mjs (7532) - Helsinki, FINLAND - JUL 22, 2017
(Sample from a bottle at RBESG 2017 Grand Tasting - thanks VastActiv) The beer poured black. Its head was small and lightly brown. Aroma had burnt malts, vanilla and vineousness. Palate was full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, vanilla, cocoa, dark chocolate and bitterness. Aftertaste was burnt, woody and bitter. A tasty barrel aged brew that hid its high ABV rather well.
