COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrel Aged Yeti Imperial Stout has been aged for 20 months in used barrels from Stranahans Colorado Whiskey, Colorados only whiskey maker. The rich and robustly roasted beer of 12.2% ABV and 75 International Bittering Units (IBUs) picks up flavors of oak, vanilla and whiskey through the extended aging process. These flavors add greater complexity to the already rich beer, while tempering its assertive nature.

Our intent, says Great Divide founder Brian Dunn, was to age each beer in the barrels for 9 months. But we got busy with other projects, primarily the addition of a new bottling line, and the beers ended up aging for more than a year and half. While the labels on the bottles state that the beers were aged 9 months in barrels, both beers were in fact aged 20 months in barrels.

Release limited to 470 bottles.

750ml bottle pours dark inky black with small tan head. Nose and taste have big chocolately layers, nice roasty cocoa and brownie spice. Notes of cinnamon and faint coconut with vanilla and balanced oaky backdrop. Rich chewy mouthfeel and lingering dark chocolate and dark fruit. Basically everything I wanted barrel aged Yeti to be, totally met my expectations all around. Wonderful.

UPDATED: DEC 10, 2016 Dark brown pour with about a finger of brown head. Vanilla and tons of bourbon on the nose. Well rounded flavor with vanilla, oak, chocolate, fig, slight caramel, and plenty of bourbon! Flavors really come out as it warms.

Pours black, good grey head. smell is sharp bourbon. taste is sharp, bit sour, very mild though. oak, sharp bourbon. Very balanced still. Probably not ment to be a bit sour, but IF it is infection, its in a very subtile way. Roasted malts. Creamy mouthfeel. Light carbo. not bad at all!
