Decent Scotch ale, but I found it to be missing something. I much prefer Old Chub.
12 fl.oz bottle. A clear dark orange brown beer with a mid-sized most good lasting beige head. Aroma of dark red malt, caramel, nuts, some chocolate, spruce. Taste of medium sweet dark malt, caramel, chocolate, nuts, spruce, really nice! Sissio (1650) - Orsenigo, ITALY - JUL 11, 2017
Bottle at home. Clear dark brown, cappuccino brown head. Caramel malts with alcoholic note, scotch, licorice, dry plum and other sweet dry fruit, cream, cocoa powder. Thick, full bodied, cappuccino, cream, nutty, dates, almond milk, scotch fudge. L_Lovecraft (609) - - JUL 9, 2017
Malty and caramel, dark ruby with a thin ocher head, light/medium body, not too carbonated, taste is similar with strong notes of caramel, some fruity notes and a good bitter final...quite balanced but not my favorite wee heavy. dambor (700) - Berlin, GERMANY - JUL 5, 2017
Pours dark brown with no head. Aroma: nice toasty aroma coupled with caramel and dark fruit. Taste: caramel, toastiness, dark fruit, countered with nice bitterness. Michael27 (1998) - Berlin, GERMANY - JUN 22, 2017
Frisch vom Hahn im Hopfenreich getrunken. Schwarz mit wenig Schaum. Etwas wässrig. Enttäuschend!

Bottle. Dark brown color with tan head. Aroma is toffee, chocolate, molasses. Taste is chocolate, toffee, earthy, nutty. Medium carbonation. Nice, albeit sweet. hauxe (771) - Butzbach, Hesse, GERMANY - JUN 1, 2017
Pours brown with a tan, creamy head. Aroma is earthy, lightly smokey, with obvious caramel and hints of cherry. Taste is sweet with notes of honey and caramel, but with an underlying burnt brown sugar bitterness. A faint sourness is also present, especially going into the finish. The interesting mix of sweet/bitter/sour is the beers strength, at the same time it all comes across with perhaps a touch too much modesty. Theres nothing earth shattering here, just a pleasant cup. Body is medium, perhaps a touch too much carbonation. Probably drank it a couple degrees to cold. Very pleasant. DwarfeD (3513) - Amersfoort, NETHERLANDS - MAY 15, 2017
355ml bottle at home. Hazy dark brown with a medium slightly off-white head. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Bitter and sweet. Malts, caramel, ripe dark fruits, brown sugar. OK brew. superspak (5600) - Michigan, USA - MAY 14, 2017
12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 4/24/2017. Pours clear very dark brown color with a 1 finger dense and fluffy light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toffee, smoke, raisin, plum, fig, herbal, wood, pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready/light roasted malts and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toffee, smoke, raisin, plum, herbal, wood, pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/woody/spicy hop and roast bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, dark fruit, herbal, wood, pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malts and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light dryness from hop/roast bitterness, lightly increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and lightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Minimal warming alcohol for 7.7%. Overall this is a great scotch ale. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malts and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. This was not as yeasty and more bitter/roasty than I would typically expect in the style; but it was still a very enjoyable offering and nice example of the style. skortila (5873) - Baarn, NETHERLANDS - APR 21, 2017
Bottled. The aroma has caramel malts, bit soap. Clear, brown coloured beer with a thin, off-white head. The taste is is moderate sweet, has little bitterness and caramel malt dominate. Okay.
