COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hoppier, maltier and with more alcohol than a standard IPA, Hercules Double IPA definitely is not for the faint of heart. Hercules Double IPA is, however, an elixir fit for the gods. A brash but creamy wonder, Hercules pours a deep orange-coppery color, forming substantial lace in the glass. Hercules Double IPA delivers a huge amount of piney, floral, and citrusy hop aroma and flavor from start to finish. A hefty backbone of nutty, toffee-like malt character balances Hercules’ aggressive, punchy hop profile. 85 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Sampled at the monthly meeting of the Champaign-Urbana Beer Club alongside Dreadnaught, 90 Minute, and a few other impressive IPAs. There’s quite of bit of blue spruce and citrus on the nose that come across strongly on the palate. I found the palate to be a bit thinner than I had expected, not thick and rich as some here have described. There’s some subtle notes of honey, candied ginger, and hazelnut. A solid IIPA, but not as well balanced as some others. Perhaps some time in the cellar will help it out.

You want to get you juice on while drinking a really flavorful brew ... this is the beer for that. Wow!! You don’t even taste the 9.1% until it is too late. Nice hop bomb.

Nice thick, chewy, greasy, hoppy beast of an ale. It’s what you expect from a highly rated imperial IPA. It’s got a monster aroma the instant it’s opened, and the flavor doesn’t dissapoint. Even with all the hops there is still a nice amount of sweet malt flavor to keep it very drinkable.

Tasted in Keystone Colorado. Obtained from a liquor store in Dillon/Silverthorne. Appearance is deep rust / orange colour, clear with little or no apparent carbonation. Head is thick and sustained in the glass. Aroma has elements of spicy and floral hoppiness, as well as a cheesecake like sweetness. Very rich aroma. Flavour is well balanced for a Double IPA.

Amber colour with a thick sparkling white head. Extreme hoppy nose. It almost knocks me to the floor. A little nuttyness is sensible too. Great bitter flavour. Flowery and herbal. Extreme bitterness in finish.

Bottled @RBESG’05
Hazy copper brown, small white head. Hoppy nose to extreme for hopheads. Sweet malty background in the extreme hoppy flavor, Great double IPA. A bit similar to Norrebro’s North Bridge Extreme.

UPDATED: FEB 21, 2006 Pours deep amber with a fair head. Very sweet flavor in the beginning a bit nutty, but soon the very full and bitter flavor kicks in. Very bitter finish. Difficult to rate other beers for a while after this one.

Maybe I have been smoking for to many years because I had a hard time picking up the POWERFULL aromas that everyone else describes. I did sense citrus and pine in a pleasant way - but huge amounts: No. Colour is semi-cloudy amber, with a nice foam that doesn’t completely go away, but clings to the inside of the glass. Mouth feel is very rich and pleasantly creamy, and the aftertaste lasts a long time. Really gives your taste buds a workout with lots of hop bitterness and refreshing citrus, pine and malt flavours. Bordering on being to extreme but doesn’t cross that fine line. An excellent IPA. Ups, almost forgot to mention the alcohol. It does say 9,1% on the bottle but that is completely hidden by all the different flavours.

(many thanks to beeryum for this brew)so i have been looking for this for a while and finally found some.i poured the hercules into a cognac snifter glass as recieved an "ice tea" like looking body with a nice tine white head.i gathered aromas of grapefruit, oranges, hay, lemons, and pne needles.the first thing i noticed was how nice and thick the mouthfeel was.giving up flavors of citurs, pine, and a nice malty backbone.this is a very fine i2pa and it was worht the wait.
