COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hoppier, maltier and with more alcohol than a standard IPA, Hercules Double IPA definitely is not for the faint of heart. Hercules Double IPA is, however, an elixir fit for the gods. A brash but creamy wonder, Hercules pours a deep orange-coppery color, forming substantial lace in the glass. Hercules Double IPA delivers a huge amount of piney, floral, and citrusy hop aroma and flavor from start to finish. A hefty backbone of nutty, toffee-like malt character balances Hercules aggressive, punchy hop profile. 85 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

jspruit (122) - Dublin, - JAN 13, 2010
Poured from a 650ml bottle dated July 22, 2005. Very cloudy appearance in an orange amber color-nice. Creamy foamy 1 finger head that leaves plenty of sticky lacing throughout with a bit of sediment. Smells grassy, hoppy, sort of malty and also sweet with sticky notes again. There is also a bit of citrus/grapefruit notes detected. Tastes largely of hops, but not too strong and bitter. I feel like the 10% ABV can be detected near the end of each taste. The malt presence is stronger than I would have thought and the grapefruit notes are much stronger than in the smell. Medium body mouthfeel overall. Smooth for all of the ABV and as much of a hopbomb that this is supposed to be. Because it is so strong in its flavors and with a 10% ABV, I dont think that I could drink alot of these over and over. Overall, I thought that it was a good DIPA, but not as outstanding as I would have expected. Ill try it again as it has a great reputation (and maybe the age of my bottle had something to do with not completely overwhelming me) but I wouldnt say that it is the best DIPA that I have ever had.

12 oz bottle from De Bierkoning @ home. Nice to see this return to the Lowlands after several years of absence, it gives me another chance to rate it. Clear light amber color. Steady white head, with some lacing. Aromas: fruity, citrus, mango, pineapple, flowery hops. Retronasal its sweet fruits, dark fruits, malty sweet. Flavor is bitter with a malty moderate sweet backbone. Above medium bodied. Long somewhat earthy bitter finsh, a bit ashy even. Good stuff.

Deep copper orange colour on the body, crystal clear, with a good sized and thick white head on top, good retention. Aroma has grapefruit and resin, plenty of hops. Wait, am I drinking a Sierra Nevada Torpedo? Hercules definitely reminds me of something very familiar, naturally another DIPA. Therefore it joins the ranks of top quality brews. Can I get kicked off Ratebeer for plagiarism? Im on my seventh full pour review of the day and rapidly losing it. Its not plagiarism if I cite my source, so hats off to a Mr. rodbeermunch over on BA. "Good orange pour on this one, 3/5" off white head. Aroma drops them old school hops and a big wave of alcohol. Taste hits the high 90ibu bitter notes, lots of hefty malt here, crystal malt, english pale malt, two row it seems. Lots of grapefruit. Straddles barleywine territory for sure. Bitterness is definitely the first and last thing you grasp on this one. Not as boozy as it smells. Enjoyable but you better be ready for the big bitter time. Dont come here looking for any of your fruity melon and citrus hops." I concur, but as a lifelong carpenter Im unclear about the 3/5". Three-fifths of an inch? I need a drink...

Bottle. Reddish amber in colour. Very hoppy aroma. Mega, mega-hoppy taste (lots of resinous, oily, piney hops; earthy taste). Fruity (bitter grapefruit and lemon citrus). Floaties and lots of sediment. Malt base (caramel & toffee). Very bitter hoppy over nice malts. Long dry bitter hoppy finish. Nice DIPA. (2008)
