COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
English-style Old Ale. Hibernation Ale is Colorados original strong ale -- it has been Great Divides winter seasonal each year since 1995. Hibernations massive flavors are so intense that it requires over three months of aging each year. This lengthy aging process gives Hibernation its revered malty richness, complex hop profile and hearty warming character, which is perfect right out of the bottle or cellared for longer periods of time.

Beautiful clear brown pour with hints of amber. Lasting beige pillow of one finger that laces all the way down. Aromas are of cooked sugar, roasted malts and darkest chocolate. Slight prune/raisin and some booze are noticed in the nose as it warms. Flavors are very similar with the only somewhat disappointing aspect being a bitterness that develops over the course of the beer and lingers without being assuaged by the next sip. Very smooth stuff too. If this were slightly sweeter, especially in the finish Id be in love.

Brewhemia (280) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - NOV 16, 2016
Clear deep red/brown with small white head. Sweet malty aroma (caramel, bread, dough and overripe fruits), some hay/grassy hop aroma and some vinous alcohol presence as well. The taste is over ripe fruity sweet, vinous and has quite a lot of roasted malt flavor (toast, coffee) plus a quite hoppy bitter and acidic finish. On the hoppy side for an old ale I would say.

laakus (125) - Nossebro, - NOV 2, 2016
Pours dark brown with some red tones, light brown thick foam. Aroma is sweet toffee, butter, sweet fruits. Enjoyable well balanced smooth mouthfeel, malty breadiness dominates initially with light tones of chocolate and a slightly bitter end dominated by roasty tones. Certain fruitiness also appears that reminds of dried fruit. Alcohol very well hidden though it contributes with pleasant warmth. Excellent seasonal beer to be sipped in the cold months!
