COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
English-style Old Ale. Hibernation Ale is Colorado’s original strong ale -- it has been Great Divide’s winter seasonal each year since 1995. Hibernation’s massive flavors are so intense that it requires over three months of aging each year. This lengthy aging process gives Hibernation its revered malty richness, complex hop profile and hearty warming character, which is perfect right out of the bottle or cellared for longer periods of time.

Pours up a dark amber color, with a creamy tan head. Aroma is rich malts and caramel. Taste is sweet, with a hint of spice, liquorish and hearty. It has a nice winter feel. Some dark fruits in the flavors keep it well rounded and balanced. Great beer.

Can @ home. Very enjoyable stuff. A bit like a barleywine or quadrupel, but slightly more hop forward and less sticky sweet. Still quite sweet, don’t get me wrong, but not annoyingly sweet. Good stuff! Medium to full body, soft carbo.

355 ml can at home, bottled 27.11.2016. Pours a dark copper with a beige head. The aroma is medium malty with toffee, caramel, biscuit and some sweet dark fruits. Medium to medium full body with a soft carbonation, a light to medium sweetness and a medium lasting bitterness - good balance. The flavor is again malty with brown sugar, honey, almond, some nuts, quite some wood and a piney hoppy bitterness. Finishes with a hoppy bitterness, hints of alcohol and nearly dry. Overall mellow and enjoyable.

Pours a slightly murky dark copper with a couple of fingers of off-white head. Quite lively and complex aroma. Caramel malts, raisins/figs and slightly citric fruitiness, slight alcohol warminess and a bit of spiciness among a quite strong resinous feel. Taste follows the aroma, with an overall less clean and maybe less vivid profile, with some earthiness to it. Overall this is quite strong in both sweetness and bitterness. Medium to dense bodied with average carbonation. All in all an intense and quite interesting beer, though not too refined in my opinion.
