Murphy (1759) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - APR 17, 2007
No head, clear dark amber. Aroma is bright and fruity, light hops. Taste is fluffy, fruity, mild hopping. Subtle oak flavor, of which I expected much more. A little too sweet for me, but a solid beer. Not work seeking out over the original.

Sampled from 32-oz bomber and shared by BDR. Pours a hazy caramel brown colored barley wine with a fast dissipating off-white head that leaves behind a white ring. Aroma of raisin, figs, a touch of vanilla and rich sweet caramel malt. Taste is full bodied, quite smooth, with flavors of figs, brown sugar, and caramel malt. Finish continues the smooth texture, with aftertaste of brown sugar, vanilla and even a hint of aged maple syrup. This one aged very well for a 2008 vintage barleywine.

Bottled shared by Brad, aged about 9 years. Atoma with brown sigar, marshmallow, cherry tree. Still good carbonation, for the age and the style. Sweet flavor, some wood ,sugar, sweet malt coating in the aftertaste.

Bottle purchased at Brix Omaha. Aroma is nice oak and slight whiskey. Appearance is a reddish hue with a nice tan head. Taste is down right PERFECT. Has some initial whiskey flavor without the harsh whiskey edge, mellowed nicely with caramel, maple smoothness. A very nice mouth feel that is creamy and smooth. This one is easily one of my top 3 beers ever.

gdubu493 (60) - New Jersey, USA - NOV 6, 2013
Purchased a 32 oz. Growler from d’vines in Washington, DC. 2010 barleywine, aged 3 years. Fruit and caramel nose. Nice orange/amber color. Creamy, foamy head that disappears slowly after pour. First drink is bitter. Hoppy front end that dissapates quickly. Palate is smooth with continued caramel and fruit notes. Beer gets better as you continue to sip it; grows on you.

smell spot on for a non hopped barley wine. Taste is sweet with a light hop in the end.. at first seems pretty hop forward but this fades. pretty much a nice non west coast barely wine with a slight west coast fringe. thin fading head. Body as expected.

Bottle acquired by trade, big time sweet caramel malt scents. Taste is nice and creamy, has a nice little spicy cinnamon taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Good but not as good as the original. It was distinctly different as well. The aroma gave hints of alcohol and sugar as well as an earthy essence. The taste was sweeter with a bit of tartness. There was a sense of wood as well and the alcohol being more prevalent. The hops were much more subdued. Dark amber and a smooth palate. Some of the sweetness lingered.

Lilja (3161) - Malmö, SWEDEN - JUL 2, 2012
Doft och smak av fikon och honung. Söt, maltig, karamell, oljig till konsistensen med trevlig beska.

julieimagery (182) - Coconut creek, Florida, USA - JUN 9, 2012
Smooth palate with a notable complexity, providing flavors of cherry, oaky earthy malt, cabernet, mild vanilla, and some figgy spirity notes at the finish.
