Went to a friend’s house and he pulled this one out of the fridge. Surprised I’ve never had this one before. Started the evening with an ’07 BCBS, and finished with this one. Poured my allotment into a pint glass. Pours a dark amber with a thin beige head on top. Notes of herbs, hops, citrus, toffee. The mouth is creamy and smooth, slightly syrupy feel on the back end. Semi-sweet syrup, molasses, mild bittering hops, bitter citrus rind. Really a good beer. Definitely an evening sipper.
Bubbly beige head stayed on a ruby still body.
Malt, over stewed fruit, marmalade, spice & dark berries aroma.
Full bodied, thick, syrupy, cloying, minimal carbonation & quite sticky on the palate. Dry on the aft.
Taste is much as the aroma, dry dark berries, bitter underripe fruit, overripe fruit, apple & a very bitter finish.

Deep brown red with lasting head. Caramel nose. Up front burnt toffee sweetness followed by aggressive earthy bitterness. A beer to finish the night (or finish you off).

Bottle from GBBF 2016. On the pour this is clearly a big hoppy barley wine. Lovely ruby red colour with beiege off white head. Nose is sweet, bitter, earthy, barley sugar, yeast extract, caramel, sugar toffee, grapefruit rind, marmalde, orange peel, pine, resiny. Taste is solid. Spicy, orange and grapefruit peel, caramel, acidic, pine, bitter citrus. The hop is massively bitter, possibly too much. The finish is all bitter citrus rind. Too much for me!

Where: Old Line Fine Wine Spirits & Bistro.
How: 12 ounce bottle.
Appearance: huge nice creamy slightly khaki in color head. Body is a rich caramel with very little clarity.
Aroma: resins floral piney malty. Some burnt sugars.
Taste: lots of resin, burnt sugars, malts, a little floral hints.
Palate: Slightly thin not super cloying but it does coat the tongue.
Overall: A fairly solid barleywine but not anything to write home about. Laces the glass beautifully though.
