Bottle. Roasted malt aroma with notes of chocolate, vanilla, whiskey and oak. Pours black with a thin light brown head that has little retention and some lacing. Starts with roasted malt and vanilla flavors as well as a velvety smooth mouthfeel. Finishes smooth with nice chocolate, whiskey and oak flavors. Excellent brew! 12oz bottle - pours a very dark midnight brown with a med beige velvety head. Inviting aroma of toasted bread, molasses, light roastiness and a hint of whiskey. Layered malts couple well with hints of whiskey and barrel notes to round out a smooth unique brew. drjay44 (3892) - Salida, Colorado, USA - NOV 15, 2017
12 oz. bottle. Pours a medium thick, well retained, tiny bubbled, beige head, with moderate lacing, over a clear dark brown (SRM 30) body........nose is heavy roasted malts with cocoa, chocolate, coffee tones, light toffee/caramel, brown sugar, hints of vanilla, mild whiskey tones, balance to the malts......taste is moderately sweet with toffee/caramel tones, brown sugar, cocoa, chocolate, light coffee from the roasted malts, slight vanilla, oak, whiskey notes, from the barrel, finishing slightly drier, with mild bitterness.....mouth feel, medium light body, mild alcohol, moderate carbonation. This is an enjoyable, complex beer in both aroma and flavor. It really misses the style of Schwartzbier that is is supposed to be, but the whiskey barrel aging utterly changes the true style which is to a Specialty Barred Aged. Rating as a Specialty Barrel below because of the very light Schwartzbier contribution. BJCP 7/3/9/4/6 ajnepple (7344) - Lakewood, Colorado, USA - OCT 27, 2017
Draft at Tap & Burger Sloan's Lake. Brown colored appearance with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, oak, caramel/toffee, mild toasted malt and light whiskey spice. Similar flavor, smooth and moderately sweet with a light bittering balance. Medium to full body with a smooth feel and a balanced finish. Overall, it's rich, dark and malty with nice barrel-aged complexities. MrTipple (6991) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 15, 2017

Dark brown, thin. Nose is caramel malts, sweet whiskey, some booze. Taste is malty, sweet, with hot finish. Pretty unbalanced and hot. coachd (972) - Missouri, USA - OCT 28, 2016
Aroma of whiskey and black licorice. Very dark brown with no head. Tastes smooth, hence the name with no booze burn. Like a dense slick black lager. Pretty good.

Sample at the Great Divide Barrel Bar. Dark brown color with a medium light beige head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of oak, malt and coffee. Medium body with flavors of roasted malt, oaky whiskey, dark chocolate and coffee. The finish is roasty with a subtle whiskey and malt aftertaste. Pretty good overall.
